Evergreen shrubs that are fast growing and deer resistant
Comments (5)I know that we have some very old hemlocks on another part of the yard. We get theym sprayed with an oil because they do have some sort of bug. They are doing okay so I guess that wouldn't be a problem. Could I keep the hemlocks to a height of 5/6 feet by just lopping the top each spring of fall?? There are some beautiful trees behind that I don't want to put in the shade. Thanks,Nancy...See MoreSalt resistant shrub/tree for privacy

Comments (14)Hmm, doesn't look like my previous post got posted, so here goes. I'm also in NJ and we've been in our house for 2 1/2 years. Half our front yard and another garden bed are filled with pachysandra because they are under the tall pine trees we have here. They spread faster than we want them to. In fact, without us even realizing it, they created their own soil out of fallen leaves and spread over our driveway about 18 inches since we've been here. It was like a thick carpet we had to cut through and roll up to move it back into the garden bed again. It is beautiful to look at, but very difficult to get rid of. Their roots are very thick and everywhere. If however, you would like more of it, you are more than welcome to come and dig some up in our yard. We have lots and lots to share....See Moredeer resistant shrubs
Comments (5)All right, let me type out the rest of it. Note these are common names but I can edit in botanical names later. Rule of thumb is Deer don't like grasses nor smelly things. Mostly they avoid prickly things, but they sure love Rose flowers/buds so that's not always a safe bet! Also make sure the variety of these plants you are looking at is hardy to your zone! They generally are for me, but specific varieties vary(ie some lavenders hardy to 6 while others are to 4) Perennials: Yarrow Monkshood Chives Pearly Everlasting Windflower Columbine Cress Sea Pink Goastbeard Butterflyweed The entire Artemisia family Astible False Rockcress Blackberry Lily Bergenia Boltonia Feather Reed Grass Harebell Turtlehead Lily of the Valley Tickseed Dianthus Bleeding Heart Gas plant Foxglove Wood Fern Coneflower Globe Thistle Cushion Spurge Joe-Pye weed Meadowsweet Blue Fescue Grass Blacket Flower Baby's Breath Lenten Rose Coral Bells St. John's wort Candytuft Iris Lavender Gayflower Rose Campion Spearmint Maiden Grass Bee Balm Sword fern Cat Mint Sweet Cicely Marjoram Peony Oriental Poppy Russian Sage Obedient Plant Jacob's Ladder Lungwort Pasque Flower Lamb's Ear Tansy Trillium Speedwell Yucca Biennials Canterbury Bells Foxglove Dame's Rocket Rose Campion Forget-Me-Not Mullein Verbena Bulbs Alliums Glory of the Snow Autumn Crocus Montbretia Winter Aconite Checkered Lily Snowdrops Hyacinths Grape Hyacinths Magic Lily Daffodils Star of Bethlehem Striped Squill Squill Ground Covers: Bungleweed Native Ginger Sweet Woodruff Barrebwort Dead Nettle Japanese Spurge Yellow stone crop Myrtle Trees: Noble Fir Horsechestnut Sweet Birch Paperbark Birch Green Ash Maidenhair Tree European Larch Norway Spruce White Spruce Black Hills Spruce Bird's Nest Spruce Austrian Pine/Black Pine Red Oak There is also a section for Annuls, which I've left out at the moment....See Morelaceyvail 6A, WV
