Overwintering Coastal Prickly Pear Opuntia stricta

During the Thanksgiving of 09 I received several large pads (fiveish) of Opuntia Stricta and kept them in a box for about a month before planting them in early January 2010. After planting in a long windowsill pot, they have grown a lot! I put the pot outdoors in full sun during the spring, summer, and autumn. Each pad (about 5) grew at about 1-3 pads! Now that it is getting cold I need to overwinter it. The plant has a lot of tiny glochoids and I would prefer to not keep it in my house in fear of them. Can I store the cacti bare rooted in a box in a cool attic or basement until spring? Will this set it back much?

Thanks for any input!
