Speaking of Tom Thumb -- I saw one at a local nursery that was probably a foot-and-a-half in diameter, selling for close to $500.

....amazing when you consider that our plants will eventually reach that size - and monetary value....

Plantman....I am not saying you will experience any difficulties but I find Bob Fincham's article very informative in his discussion concerning this cultivar.

Probably anyone attempting to grow it should read it.

Note the cultivar name he has assigned to it.

Both are beautiful specimens Mike. Your 'Skylands' is a knockout and that 'Tom Thumb Gold' was a bargain. I would have definately snatched up a big one like that for that price. I have mine planted on the west side of my house but it is shaded from the South by a larger conifer so it gets mostly late afternoon sun. Eastern exposure would probably be ideal but I'm sure anybody that can grow a 'Skylands that looks that good will have no problem with 'TTG' :).

For anyone who travels to Lancaster County, Pa, do make a shopping trip to Conestoga. Best prices around, a lot of Iseli stock, knowledgeable, (Mennonite) hardworking, friendly owners. Spring thru Fall, closed Sundays and Tuesdays. I believe before the season is over, they hold an auction for all the un-sold's.
