thank you ingrid for the warm welcome - i'm so happy to meet you here on a fascinating theme. tea roses are indeed a rare thing in germany and rather for freaks...but we're getting more and more... i'm participating in a set of tealovers and found the way to you via morrisnoor about identification of some doubtfull teas in european collections and commerce. we have the same problems as the oz tealovers in this regard. thus i hope that i will find here some answers to open questions concerning mislabeled, forgotten and found specimens. ahhhhh..the rest of the fovourites...it's hard to say much about because they are still little plants that i've purchased one year ago. among them the better known items of the lists above. in a few weeks will arrive some found teas from vintage which we feared they would give up their business. let's tell me more next season..the total listing of my plants you will find on hmf. let me at least apologize for my halting english. best, kai-eric

I kept meaning to summarize my results but life was just too busy. I ended up getting some unexpected results; however the overall take-home for the experiment was that germination seemed to be pretty high regardless of the method (other than nicking). Update to my latest baobabery: To reiterate the setup-- 7 seeds nicked at the crest, soaked in boiling water 6 seeds not nicked, soaked in boiling water 6 seeds not nicked, soaked in epsom salt cold water 6 seeds not nicked, soaked in cold water All the seeds were placed between wet paper towels in plastic baggies and put near a light (my heat mat broke so this was my best source of heat). A nicked/boiled seed was the first to sprout (day 5); however the remaining nicked/boiled seeds were rotten by three weeks into the experiment. The germination rates were: Nicked/boiled: 1/7 Boiled: 5/6 Salt/Cold: 4/6 Cold: 4/6 So overall (not including the nicked seeds) I got 72% to germinate. I should note that by two months into the experiment the boiled (5) and the cold (4) seeds had finished their sprouting, however only 1 of the salt/cold seeds had germinated. I assumed the salt/cold seeds were dead at this point and tossed the baggie into a pile of trash. Earlier this week I was cleaning up stuff and noticed that 3 more of the seeds in the salt/cold bag had sprouted (4 months!) so I removed them and planted those as well. The bag hadn't been sealed to the paper towel was almost totally dry. Other things to note: When the seeds sprouted I found that the best method was to remove about half of the seed coat manually (without damaging the embryo). Total removal worked but was difficult and probably didn't help the little guy too much. In almost every case where I didn't remove the seed coat, the leaves got stuck in the coat and I had to chop them in half to free them otherwise they tore and began to rot. Chopping the leaves had no ill effect on the plants. After a few of the seeds got moldy from I tried peeling them (they had not germinated at this point) and shockingly two of them grew although one died after a few days so I didn't count that as a successful germination. Many more of the seeds sprouted than I had anticipated so I quickly ran out of space and small pots. Initially I was using these biodegradable pulp pots and shockingly all of these seedlings eventually wilted and (without intervention) died. The seedlings placed in plastic pots (even 3 oz plastic shot glasses w/o drainage holes) all thrived. i was able to save two of the wilted guys by replanting them but I ended up losing many of them. All in all I have 8 healthy plants at the end. I still have a ton of seeds left so if anyone wants to trade or just wants some let me know. I didn't count them, but my bag of seeds is about 9oz so there are several hundred and I have no space for a forest. Maybe I'll go Johnny-Appleseeding around the city :) I'll attach some photos in another...

Salut Allgold, Il est vrai que je suis passionn de roses et plus particuliement celles de Dominique Massad, mais je peux dire haut et fort (tu entends Dominique) que c'est sa faute car il nous a offert une rare possibilitpour les rosomanes qui est de visiter son jardin en pleine floraison ; et me au mois d'ao son jardin ait encore printanier sans compter qu'il est tout aussi geux que ses roses en nous laissant quelques merveilles planter dans nos jardins (n'est-ce pas les Dany que nous sommes tr tr gs) Si tu dires te procurer Francine Royneau tu devrais thoner la roseraie Guillot pour le commander (Domaine de la Plaine, 38460 CHAMAGNIEU FRANCE T. : +33 / (0)4.74.90.27.55 / Fax : +33 / (0)4.74.90.27.17 / http://www.rosesguillot.com/roses/fframe1.htm car je viens de m'apercevoir qu'on ne le trouve pas sur leur site qui miterait d're mis jour des dernies crtions. Tu peux le voir dans leur catalogue (p.49 11,4 l'unit 11,05 les trois et 10,7 par 5) ce sont de jolies roses simple d'une couleur jaune d'or d'ojaillissent de longues amines rouges qui en font tout son charme. Par ailleurs j'ai vu chez truffaut que certaines vari pouvaient s'y trouver mais je ne sais pas si elle s'y trouve. Puisque tu aimes les roses simples, si tu pouvais voir la rose Edouard Guillot, cela fait plus de deux ans qu'avec les amis on est en admiration devant cette machine boutons, tant elle est florife en bonne santet surtout ses fleurs changent de couleur avec le temps en s'ourlant d'un liserqui illumine son oeil. Une vraie splendeur (au fait je tiens te dire que je suis enseignante et pas du tout dans le milieu commercial, donc mes propos sont libres) Une autre curiositqui j'espe sera commercialiset que tu peux voir sur les posts prents, un rosier qui a des roses qui ressemblent rangement des clatiques, c'est surprenant. Mon go est tourn vers les roses pivoines tr parfums mais avec le temps j'apprie de plus en plus les autres formes voire me les rosiers botaniques qui, je l'espe, par le biais des boutures pourront s'(en)raciner dans nos jardins. OK People!!! When you feel as if you can manage to move, there's the annual Oktoberfest going on in the city today. Lots of food (if you can stand more)lots of beer (just in case you didn't get all you wanted last night and this morning) and music from an OOMPAH Band. The Big thing every year is the Weiner Dog Races. They had over 200 of the darling racings last year. It's down at the River Front Park in the Historic District. You can hang around here as long as you like, just eat up all the leftovers and drink all the booze and tidy up the place. I'm going to take a long nap. Thanks everyone for making this a blast...a literal one thanks to Dynomutt. I'm sorry I didn't mention that you should be careful about sparks and all that dry marsh grass. My husband says you can keep those pants....he doesn't want them back..ever! I took scads of pictures for those on the RP that had to stay home. Unfortunately, I left the camera on the railing and it got dumped in the water when someone got a little too excited. I really didn't think my belly dancing was THAT good!! That Pig Roast was exceptional.. I simply must get me one of those roasters for when all the grandkids come over. Then I would have an excuse for making them eat outside. That little thunderstorm that popped up was rather exciting, wasn't it? You'll have to admit that 30 mminutes of watching lightning over the marsh was not your usual party entertainment.
