Oops, my dahlia cuttings took root. Now what?

Hi there. I posted this same question in the California gardening forum, soliciting and they booted me over here. :)

Earlier in the summer, I was cutting back my Babylon Bronze dahlia plant and, just for kicks, decided to root some of the cuttings. Now the cuttings are rooted and growing pretty vigorously right now. (10" shoots).

Since it's getting cold, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do with them? If I plant them out now, tuber-less, they probably won't see the other side of winter, even in Zone 10, right? And if I bring them in the house, I doubt my ability to give them the right conditions to survive (too little light & dry, heated air). My most hopeful thoughts are of leaving them in my 'poor-man's greenhouse', a big plastic storage box with a lid and hoping they'll survive. The box is outside, and stays moist and wind-free, but the temps will drop as low as the 40's on some nights.

Has anyone else been in this situation before? Please share your wisdom. Thanks!

Myles
