Worms in my Yucca Cane plant

Just noticed today that my Yuccca Cane plant has little white worms in the soil. I don't know what happen, where did the worms come from. My plant is indoors in my dining room and I do water it every week. Maybe too much water or too little sun. Pls help . Thanks

Have you noticed any little gnats flying around? The worms could be fungus gnats. They seem to come from nowhere. The trick is to keep the top of the soil dry -- they do like a moist condition. You can put a little sand on the top.

I have been noticing high activity of this bug this year. Maybe we have much more humidity due to the increased rain fall.

Andre, that definitely looks fungal. Is the tip still alive? Is there good drainage in the pot? Too much moisture makes this worse. If there are any good leaves left, I'd prune off the sick ones- they'll cause more infection. If that trunk is still good and firm, it will sprout more once the problem is corrected. For killing the fungus, neem oil is a good choice. Mist the plant with it outside or in the shower if you can, so the spray doesn't get everywhere. Neem is a bit smelly, but good because it's not so toxic. It also can be used as an insecticide. I see I mentioned neem before. I am sorry for being repetitive, but I do like the stuff.

Hi. I had a yucca cane last spring and a thunder storm knocked it over. All but one shoot broke off. The plant was fine after all the abuse it took but I ended up throwing it out anyway because it didnt look right with one shoot coming out. So, the plant should be fine if you cut them off. Try not to cut them and pull them out by the root. I planted the ones that fell off and two of them have been growing in pots for about 11 months. I dont think they grow new trunks but they look really cool. Let me know what you do.

This is an update of the yucca above , shes been in the house for the majority of the time I’ve had it so I recently moved it outdoors because The leaves started to turn white and crack and eventually dry out so First I watered it (soil was very dry ) and left it in the house for about a week and half after . then I placed it outside because I thought it needed more sunlight and it’s still abit chilly but manageable, but now it seems the leaves continue to dry up and then crack with white , any help ? Could it be because it needs to be repotted badly? I haven’t repotted it since I got it .. I think it’s a yucca gloriosa

That it totallly normal It loosing the older leaves. Oh no. I was going to suggest to wait and re pot in spring. They take better then. Kepp it dry, They like it much drier in the winter. If you have watered it one already after repotting it's best to leave it alone until your see new growth.

You can check the roots & change the soil. The roots can be cleaned off with a power nozzle, & any unnecessary root material removed. The roots tolerate trimming, & it is a good idea to cut away all bad roots while transplanting.
I have not seen white worms with fungus gnats, but from the posters above it looks like it is possible. Make sure they are not termites.
