key lime from cuttings

I brought back (from FL to MA)a meyer lemon or myself and a key lime for my son, and took a cutting from his key lime. Lucky as he promptly killed his tree. Anyway, it is two years now and the tree is very healthy but has few flowers in the spring and no sign of fruit. Am I being impatiant with a tree from a cutting, or is key lime a grafted fruit and I won't see anyting ever?

OH dear. Florida is a restricted state because of the disease that is infecting citrus there. PLEASE DO NOT CARRY CITRUS PLANT PARTS FROM FLORIDA. Please please please let the USDA know and have them test it.

There are no restrictions whatever on taking citrus OUT of Florida. Perhaps being from California you're hypersensitive about citrus crop issues,but those are not an issue in the majority of states, certainly not Massachusetts!

1 leaf is just 1 leaf. We need to see more of the plant to know the amount and distribution of the potential problem. please post images of the entire plant, or at the very least, a large portion of each plant. Please provide more clues, such as tell us if in pots or the ground. If pots, indoors, greenhouse, or outdoors. Also, where do you live?

If it has to come off, it's better to cut it now than wait for it to break. Growing it is just wasted energy for the tree. I have a key lime in a pot and rooting some cuttings earlier this year. They all took, and citrus are said to be easy to root in general, so I say go for it. My cuttings were from the last three or four inches at the tip of a shoot. I took off all but the last few leaves, dipped them in a rooting hormone, and put them in plastic dixie cups (with holes in the bottom) filled with moist peat. The cups went into a larger plastic container with a thin layer of water at the bottom to keep the peat moist, then the whole thing went into a glass fishtank. Good luck!

Brian!!! How you buddy!! HUGS buddy!!!! Listen, I have been wondering how things are going? I saw what your yard will look like and now a greenhouse to boot! If there was a way to put that bar into your greenhouse, just think of the possibilities...lol Have you been able to get all your plants out of the yard? The perennials and shrubs and stuff? Then all your citrus and others.? By the way, don't forget to take Sugar with you...lol How far from your original home is this? Is the weather the same there? You must be getting very excited to get your new place all done and to set up that greenhouse..Always just on time...You will have it set up before the cold weather moves in, much earlier than you last attempt..lol You do have the plastic cover already or will the one you already have be big enough? Please, if you could, could you start a new Thread about your whole set up, the progress, pics of the trees, yard and the building process if you get time? I am thinking many here would love to be by your side when you do like me... There are indeed restrictions on bringing citrus out of FL. None of the Nurseries are allowed to ship out of state either. You should do some research before taking things for granted.

who told you that? Sorry but yes there are restrictions and for a good reason and Yes we have seen huge losses of trees and people wiped out becsuse of it. and yes you need to check your facts

Yes there NOW are restrictions but if you re-read his post not sure if the restrictions were in place at the time he moved the trees. When were the restrictions on movement of trees put in place? Etsavir mentioned 2 years having passed so not sure if his trees are affected.

Exactly, Citrus...Etsavir said he/she brought back trees and cutting two years ago..At that time, there were no restrictions shipping/bringing citrus trees out of the state of FL..I believe the ban started a little over a year ago, which means a year after Etsavir's trees/cuttings were brought home to MA.

Etsavir, Patience is the key with citrus/cuttings. Especially now, this time of year..I'm surprised you've seen flowers at all considering it's only a 2 year old cutting. But it also tells me you're doing something right, so keep up the good work..
Since your lime has flowered, maybe in 2008 you'll discover baby fruits after flowers fade..Good luck, Toni

this must be new
you can even get bagged and boxed citrus trees at any airport down here to take home with you

but to the issue
it may just take a little while to get fruit that will set
lots of key limes are grown from cuttings
