Aloe Vera got long stem now tipped over

I have a common aloe vera plant. It wasn't very well taken care of for a few years. It didn't get watered regularly. The stalk grew and there is about 2.5" before the leaves branch out and it can't hold itself up. The stalk is about .5" in diameter. Now I am taking better care of it and the leaves are trying to turn up.

I was wondering if I should plant it in a deep pot and bury the stalk about 2.5" deep into the soil so the plant can then support itself upright.
