I'm trying 2 this year, Green Envy Zinnia and Echinacea Green Wizard. Starting both from seed.

We sure have differing tastes, CMK. Not a bad thing. I do like yellow daylilies whose blooms lean toward chartreuse, and foliage plants with chartreuse leaves. Bells of Ireland are nice for bouquets.

My mother used to grow Green Gladioli and 'Envy' Zinnias together. I planted Envy last summer and was not overjoyed with the results.

To my eye, 'green' echinacea looks like the regular plants when they get floral malformations caused by phytoplasma and have to be destroyed. When I looked up phytoplasma, I found this link. Someone might find it helpful when regular Echinacea looks poorly.

I also have seeds for "green" nicotiana. Not sure if the plant is green or the blooms. I suspect it will be somewhat whitish.

I have a green rose. Not kidding a bit, it was introduced before 1835, I think. It is an unusual bloom, but the foliage is classic rose foliage. I like it.

Token, green envy zinnias are easy from seed, although for me they tend to be mildew magnets. I have a variety of nicotiana that returns every year where the blooms are a greenish color, perhaps more chartreuse than green, but I like them. Bells of Ireland and hellebores are certainly plants that can fall into that category of green flowers although I think in the case of Bells of Ireland they are considered bracts and not true flowers. Yep,heard of a green rose, viridis in the name, and got one several years ago to give to my mother as a gift. She unfortunately managed to kill it with too much attention.

I'm trying three green annuals for next summer -- nicotiana, zinnia and laceflower.

I'll let you know after I see how they look. I have purple flowers to plant as companions.

I've planted the green zinnia before with great luck. Also, Bells of Ireland but don't recall them flopping as much as they did last summer. I think that it's really true what many have said about the too rich soil making the difference, because I planted them in the new border I'm trying to start in the orchard and I added alot of compost. They grew beside Violet Queen cleome.

I know someone posted awhile back about the green rose. I just can't cozy up to it, and I love roses. I'm a bit weird with green, because some flowers I find just plain ugly and others I really like. I love the Aster 'Hulk'.

I just started my zinnia seeds indoors. I know, it's early. But I have lots of them. I just want to see something grow and test my propagator. Since these are supposed to be easy, I'm trying on them first. If it works, I'll do cherry brandy rudbeckia next. I want to line the whole front bed with these rudbeckias.

ERrr.. that was supposed to say Zinnia green envy. Otherwise, it is not at all relevant to this thread. I still need a nap.

I like green flowers in bouquets, but I've been disappointed with them in the garden. They get lost in all that greenery, and the blooms are barely noticeable. The nicest green flower I think is nicotiana, where the unusual form draws attention.

I have never raised them, but must say they don't appeal to me in the least, nor do the "black" plants or trees. Every time I see a particular black/green leaved tree on our route to town, I think it looks poisonous.

I guess I am pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to flowers..........still like the simpler, old-fashioned ones best

token, are you sure about that echinacea? There is a very new introduction on the market, Echincaea purpurea 'Green Envy', but the only perennial I am familiar with the cultivar name 'Green Wizard' is a selection of Rudbeckia occidentalis. (sometimes echinacea and rudbeckia are used interchangeably - but incorrectly - by a few growers or seed suppliers) I used to grow this plant but it just didn't cut it for me :-) It is virtually all cone with a few tiny green sepals surrounding. While it did OK, it didn't stand out well and it looked just like an ordinary coneflower past its bloom, but from the day it opened!

There are so many shades of green.....my favorites are the chartreusey-lime flowers/bracts of many of the euphorbias. And they last so long.

You're right gardengal, it is rudbeckia. In my mind I pictured it as echinacea.

Parks calls it a coneflower. Maybe that's why I was thinking echinacea.

How could I have forgotten about the euphorbias when I have them in quite a few places in my garden?? Thanks for bringing them up Pam. I grow the common donkeytail spurge as well as Euphorbia characias 'wulfenii'. Their chartreusey colors are a welcome sight in the spring and they reseed themselves very easily but are easy to remove if they get overly aggressive.

My new daughter-in-law had some green amaranthus in her wedding bouquet that looked fabulous!!! She also had some greenish white roses, helleborus, stock, and I forget what else but it was truly stunning. The green amaranthus is what really made it spectacular though. I ordered some seed from Parks but it will be this summer before I know how they do in the garden. Have any of you grown this before?
