Confused about lighting for winter still?

What is confusing to me is this. If that room was kept cold, then would the plants I have do just as well with no light at all?

Or if a room is cool, and the roots in the pots obviously cool, would light force growth on a plant with to cold of a root sysytem, which in turns is what can cause severe leaf drop?

Do the roots have to be warm accomodate the amount of light we give them in winter?

And if the room is warm, is alot of light better ,or leaves will drop?

Is this a choice, or would tropicals do lousy in a cool room with just winter sun in the south facing room of my home?

Lots of light in warm room with warm roots?

Or less light with cool roots in cool room?

Does it makes a diffreence for my type of tropical non resting plants?

I am so sorry!!!

Thanks alot!!
