newly planted fat albert needle drop

I just planted two 3-4ft. fat alberts that were B&B. I noticed the other day at the base of the trees quite a few needle droppings. when i brushed my hand against the tree near the bottom the needles would just fall off rather easily. It's not a water problem- we've had adequate rainfall since planting them a few weeks ago. Is this a normal adjustment for them? I noticed the norways and bakeri spruces I planted at the same time do not have the same symptoms.
