Anyone looking for some bargains

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to pass on some info about a place I happened to come across while searching for DL's on the internet. Several weeks ago I came across a site that hadn't been updated since 2006. I liked the prices that were listed, particularly on some of the older CV's. Anyway I decided to email the owners and ask if they were still selling DL's. I was told that the website wasn't updated last year, and that this year will probably be their last year open. I was told to take 30% off their 2006 pricelist, and that all plants will be discounted more deeply come spring if I wanted to wait. However there would be no guarantee that what I wanted would still be availabe at that time. Anyway I placed a rather lengthy order with them. They have a lot of oldies but goodies such as 'Northwind Dancer', a good number of Spacecoast's and many others. Anyway....just thought I would pass along the link and the info in case anyone else is bargain hunting. I've never purchased from them before, but Carla seemed very nice to talk to during our email exchanges. I can't vouch for their plant quality though, but at those prices.....I decided to take a chance.

It doesn't appear to me that the prices are much of a bargain, even with a 30% discount.

I guess a bargain pretty much depends on where you buy your plants. As for me I buy a lot of my plants on the LA and always check the prices of closed auctions before I bid, so I have a general idea of what the plant is going for. For instance 'Azure Violets' recently sold on the LA for $22.00 DF and $52.00 DF, and most other sites I checked out had it listed for $18 - $24.....so to me $12.60 is a bargain. Northwind Dancer is selling at Marietta Gardens for $75.00....I was outbid on the LA at $60.00, and other sites have it listed at $50 to $60 so (TO ME) getting it for less than $36 is a deal. I passed on buying 'Ginny Mitchell' there because even with the %30 off I felt the price was way too high. Again....I guess it depends on what you are looking to buy. A bargain to one person isn't always a bargain to another. Compared to the LA and some other sites I frequent I feel I got some pretty good bargains. JMHO

Oh my gosh, when I was young, my Mom sent me to the store to get milk with a $20 bill. I came back with those 2 tall decanters those exact same colors!!!! Flashback! You made my day! Kirk P.S. Mom kept the decanters, but I had a sore bottom! LOL

Christie, just take some cuttings from non-blooming tips...strip off bottom leaves...dip in rooting powder and stick in a cell pack of damp potting soil. I like to place the cell packs down in a large clear plastic bag and set near a window. Don't keep them too "close" and damp. Save those big bags that big packs of paper towel come in..a little print on it won't hurt. Tie it off at the top and use the string to tie the top up to something so it won't lay down on the plants. Near a window is good, or under a good light. They root pretty fast...I did a whole bunch last year and planted them out...they are big this year. Think I did them in late May or early June. Ooops! Forgot to mention that I am talking about Salvia, May Night. LOL

K, As usual your tablescape is right on. And the food makes me want to reach in and just get a taste of that apple chutney! There you go with that B&W again. (I already started looking for some for me)!!!! I knew you were going to keep on until I fell in love with it! Purplemoon, I really love that pic you posted. Wouldn't have thought to use the pink to give that punch of color, but it really powered it up didn't it? Yesterday I was so busy. I did take some chicken out to thaw, but then got busy taking out the trash,washing clothes, and (my favorite) trying to make a valentine tablescape to surprise DH. When he got home and asked what was for dinner I realized I had gotten so intent on that table that I hadn't cooked any dinner!!!!!! Was craving some shrimp scampi but didn't have any shrimp so I improvised and fixed everything just like shrimp scampi, but used the chicken breasts cut up and sauteed(SP?) in olive oil instead. Needless to say it wasn't as good as shrimp scampi, but it was the next best thing. DH scarfed it up and that made me happy. More pics of tablescapes please !!!! I did a quick scan and thought the prices were a bit high, some would be ok with 30% off, but some are still a bit high even with the discount.

I bought my North Wind Dancer from Wiilow Veil two years ago, along with some Reckamps. They sent very nice plants. Their prices on the cultivars I wanted were very reasonable at the time.
