Direct sow seeds for hot humid south

Ok, I am trying to fill in my perrenial beds with self sowing plants. Can any of you please give a list of seeds you have had luck sowing directly into the ground with continued success? I am in zone 8 and am not sure when to sow many of the seeds I see in catalogs. Do I sow in fall or spring for my climate?

This is probably a question that has been asked before but I searched and could not find an answer for my zone. I rely on the wealth of knowledge of gardeners on this forum and trust all of you.

I have started making my list of plants I want to try this spring. I don't know about all of you but I can't wait until I can get outside and start digging again.

Let's all hope for an early spring.

Thanks, faye
