3 new babies! 2 Need IDs!

I got 3 new cacti tonight! I couldn't help myself! Going to a store with cacti and succulents is like going to the pound for me! They all cry to me to take them home! It's dangerous! Anyway . . .

This one had a label. It says it's Notocactus buiningii. Is this correct?

This one came with no label. It's about 6 - 7 inches tall and has a bluish hue!

This one also came with no label. I have had my eye on it for some time now! It's about 5 inches wide!

Any ideas?

# 3 looks like Horse crippler cactus Echincactus texensis. I will be back with the blue one unless someone beats me to it.

I thought so, but I've never seen such a big bush -- I've only ever seen individual stalks or small clumps. Also, the flowers looked smaller than usual. Maybe it's an older plant, before the new cultivars that I'm more used to seeing. Thanks for your help! M

i cant focus on a leaf.. so others may ask for a better pic ... but it generally reminds me of bluebeards mist.. aka caryopteris ... though i am no botanist ... but it should be in late bloom.. and that makes me think i am wrong ... ken

The one must have already fledged - like I said there were only the two dead ones in the box.... your thinking pesticides? I'd be surprised as I'm on 5 acres and the blues primarily hunted in our yard - which is absolutely pesticide free.... our neighbors to one side of us have no yard so no need for pesticides. Now our neighbors to the other side - which is through the woods, may have applied some, and then they are next to a farm - which also may have some applied. Anyway - it just seems weird - so close to them being ready to fledge. Any idea if they will do a third nest? Or are they done for the season here in MI?

I have two friends who wanted to give me a shower for my third child. I insisted very strongly to them that I did not need a shower, nor did I want one. Where I come from this is just not done! I thanked them profusely for wanting to, but I insisted on them not giving me a shower. Well, they surprised me with a shower, a lovely little dinner out with about 10 people, neighbors and friends who weren't around when we had the first two, since we had lived in a different state then. I was overwhelmed with emotion. So grateful that I had friends who wanted to do this for me, who wanted to celebrate my third child in this way. They went to a lot of trouble for me and I will never forget it. Let them throw you the shower. Amy

The first is labeled correctly. The 2nd one seems to be a Stenocereus (or Pilosocereus?) and the 3rd certainly is a nice young Ferocactus latispinus.

Thank you to all three of you! I have had my eye on the Ferocactus latispinus for at least a month now! Its actually quiet large! I'm very excited about it actually! I swear my husband thinks I'm crazy!

I think #2 is a pilocereus but I don't know which one. Maybe P. pentaedrophorus or P. keyensis

Hi Erin, can't help you with the ID but can sympathize with you about plants wanting to come home with you. I swear they just jump into my hands, at least that is what I tell my hubby.

UGH! Tami it's terrible! They do just jump in to my hands as well! The worst part is that I pass by a store that has a decent selection (for this area) every morning on my way to and on my home from dropping my daughter off at day care! I always manage to stop! I can't help myself!
