That's beautiful. Sounds like a great spot for your statue, will she stand on a small floor of pavers? You could radiate small paths out of a circle of pavers and then fill in the areas between with plantings (not in between pavers). It's hard to imagine without seeing the statue set up in it's spot.

I plan on putting her on 1 large square paver, unless you think smaller pavers hold or disperse weight better(she is only 95 pounds)? I will have flagstone path leading to the arbor, but i havent exactly planned the rest. I have to get her home first! Glad you like the statue, she seems serene and just beautiful. Ive wanted to add her to the garden for a year now, but wasnt sure about the size.

No statues in my garden but I do have some sculptures/structures that I guess could classify as such. By the way, I love the stuff in Design Toscano catalog. I have several items in the house that I purchased from them.

On the left side of the house,you walk under an arbor and along a winding path with hedges on the left and foundation plantings on the right up close to the house.

As the path opens up into the backyard, I have a planter area with an obelisk centered in the bed with two types of yucca planted in the bed as well as a crawling sedum.

In the backyard on that same side but further into the yard is a kinetic wind sculpture that turns in the wind. It was made by a gentleman here in NC down towards the Raleigh area.

A friend gave me a glass blown ornament that is about three feet tall that I have in another part of the garden in a bed of pachysandra.

I've posted this picture before, but this is my favorite statue. It's a little cherub? We call it our 'little man'. He's holding grapes, and looking down slightly. I've moved him around the garden here and there, but this seems to be his permanent place. He's on a pedestal to take him to eye level and give him the height he needs:

Lilyfinch, that is a gorgeous statue. I was curious to know what she was the goddess of. I posted a link below. I found it interesting that there are plants associated with her. Lettuce and ivy. I wonder if there would be some way you could work that in around the statue somehow?

Is this statue going to be through the arbor that you posted on the photo from everyone thread? What a pretty arbor. Will she be near the fence in the background? I was wondering how close she would be to the birdhouse on the left. Or would you see her from the opposite side of the arbor? I like Schoolhouse's idea with the pavers.

Thyme2dig, the tree you are referring to is a larch and that is the fall color on the tree before the needles fall off.

The blown glass ornament was purchased at a gift shop in Greensboro. Don't remember the name but am running around with the friend on Saturday so will ask her then. It does look like something that Dale Chihuly would do doesn't it? I saw a display he did in an art gallery in Charlotte and it was just mind blowing.

Holly- i love your pond and your "little man " is perfect for the area! We also have a pond , with koi, do you have fish in yours? Is the water colored that gorgeous lagoon blue or does it happen naturally?
Thyme2dig, I read allot about her, i like that she represents youth, and love her graceful expression. I have looked at statues everywhere, and there is something about her that draws me in!
She will be in the garden thru the arbor in the picture you saw. I want you to be able to see her strait thru the arbor (but she will be closer to the back fence), so i already have a rose hedge planned to go on each side of the arbor. The arbor will have white climbing roses and maybe clematis on it. She will be fairly far from the birdfeeder, i think itll be out of view. Plus i have a tardiva hydrangea planted by the feeder, which will kinda take away the attention from the feeder.
I feel like itll all come together this spring, but with help from you all! As soon as i am able to set the statue i will post pics again.

Lilyfinch - I am loving your plans about seeing the staue through the arbor, with white climbing roses and clematis. So romantic feeling.

The picture of my pond was taken fairly soon after it was finished. It looks almost the same now, except more weeds! I have asian jasmine planted as a ground cover, but the weeds have grown faster than it can fill in. I'm hoping by the end of next summer it will be almost filled in as well as the boxwood along the fence. No tinting, just a blue sky that day, I suppose. We do have just a few koi, and some goldfish. I love feeding them. :)

Can't wait to see pictures of your goddess in your garden.

Nckvilledudes, thanks for the info. I had thought that it was possibly a larch based on the shape but it was tough to see. I just planted one this year and I already love it. Thanks for checking with your friend about the blown glass. I'd be very interested. I'm in NC at least once a year and this would make a nice field trip if the Greensboro location had bunches of choices!

I looked through the Toscano website last night after seeing your statue and I think Hebe is the most beautiful statue they offer. She really is gorgeous. It will be such a nice addition to your garden!

Thyme2dig, not sure if you will be able to find another one of the blown glass sculptures. I have visited the shop twice since the object was purchased for me and I have never seen another one there. Will try and remember to ask the friend the name of the shop but you would think that I would remember it having gone twice myself! LOL I do tend however to be one of those that remembers the places but not the names but could find it in a pinch. It is at the intersection of Spring Garden and Chapman Street and used to be a hair salon. Check back later to see if I can remember to ask! LOL

thyme2dig, the name of the shop in Greensboro, NC where the blown glass ball was purchased is called Tranqulities. The friend I talked to today said that it was obtained from a glass blower in Canada. You may be able to contact the owners of the store and see if they have any more or if they could give you the name and contact info for the artist in Canada. Feel free to snag the picture I posted of it if it ends up being helpful as a means of refreshing the store owner's memory.

Lily, I LOVE the idea of having a statue in the garden. I inherited a classical/art nouveau-ish one that is on a 4' black marble base. The bronze statue itself is about 2' tall-a female figure running and holding a bunch of grapes aloft with her other hand reaching down toward a child running along side and reaching for the grapes. It really is a spectacular piece, I think. I have loved it since it stood in my grandparents' foyer and I always pictured it in the garden. I was warned against that for this one because of the chance that it could break if it toppled. I think I may check out Toscano. Can't wait to see what you do with yours! It will be wonderful!!

To me, she should be next to a water feature like a pond or a pebble fountain and because she is a grecian statue, you should consider planting a conical evergreen behind her to present a mediterranean scenery.
