Well, neither of those are cacti, but succulents. One is a Stapeliad, and the other is a Euphorbia. All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti. The Stapeliad (and there are oodles of species within the genus) makes drop dead gorgeous flowers, but they stink worse than rotted meat, and attract flies when in bloom. Still a very worthy plant. The Euphorbia also has oodles of species within it's genus, and I can't tell you which species either of your two plants are. It is also a worthy plant to have. I would put each one in a seperate clay pot, with a coarse, well drained soil mix. If you live is south Florida, you might get away with planting them in the ground, but neither will tolerate much, if any frost.. Hope this helps..

The plant hanging over the sides of the pot is a tropical cactus, most likely a Hylocereus which is commonly used as a cheap rootstock for grafts - yours looks like an old rootstock (graft scion probably died) that has now branched out. These can make aggressive roots and can actually get quite large if you let it climb up a tree...

The plant on the right also looks like a cactus as it has too many spines for a euphorbia, and the spines appear to be growing from areoles which are found only on cacti. Not sure of an ID, but maybe a stenocereus...

Looks like you also have a monadenium in there...

Sorry, Bill, but unless you're looking at a different photo than I am, I have to disagree with both your identifications. I'm not certain of exact species, but the plant sprawling out of both sides of the pot is a type of cereus, or very likely hylocereus. This type of cactus (and it is a true cactus) can climb trees or walls by putting out aerial roots. I have one scrambling 12 feet up one of my palm trees.

The columnar plant is not a euphorbia, near as I can tell. The best test is to make a discreet puncture, somewhere it won't show. If it bleeds milky white sap, it's a euphorbia. If it doesn't, it's not. I'm not good with my cactus taxonomy, but it's likely a myrtillocactus, or another form of cereus.

Obviously, Peyton and I are on the same page... and we jumped in at the same time!

the spotted one is k. gastonis-bonnieri or "donkey ears". i dont see any pups on yours but you should expect to see new plants growing from the notches on the leaves. where in fla are you located? i lived in Pensacola for many years and had no problem growing succulents outside in the ground but i used a raised bed with lots of sand. good luck!

jo, I live in St. Pete. That donkey ear had pups on it leaf tips. I thought it was pretty neat. As you can see, there are little guys coming up around it. Thanks for telling me what it is everyone.

well, duh! i didnt even look at the ground! mine are not big enuff to flower yet and i was too busy looking at the top of your plant to notice what was at the bottom of it. lol
