You might try calling over to UCIrvine and see if they need help on this rose collection: http://www.uci.edu/virtualtour/location/roses.html Westminster has the All American Rose Garden at their civic center, I don't know if they use volunteers or not. Sherman Gardens in Corona del Mar uses volunteers I think but I don't know if thats for the garden or just for tours. Did you try the Huntington in San Marino? They certainly use volunteers in the rose garden. Cal State Fullerton Arboretum uses volunteers, you might try there...

I looked through the WHOLE album, Reggie! Fantastic! Gave me lots of ideas! Thanks for the link! I'm sure others will enjoy it as well! =) John, you have to go back & look!! Ideas for more, like your sidewalk plantings. Good catalyst, I agree! :D As both Reggie & Rian said, I agree, your plant looks like Cheiridopsis denticulata. Reggie, I did NOT take a photo of the tag for that dish garden. Drat! That was at the point where I'm on overload, my eyes were starting to glaze over & I quit taking pix of tags. Sorry! It looked somewhat similar to what Matt did at the Sherman Grdns, but not so detailed.

If Cannas need a lot of sun then they won't work. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check those out. I do have an irrigation issue, I have 5 sprinklers servicing a section of my yard. One of them is located in section where there is a block wall on two sides and a large hedge on the other. Therefore because it gets a lot more shade (only gets 1-3hr of sun) but gets the same about of water, it is a lot more damp.

Tree aloes in 7th photo are left foreground Aloe plicatilis, left middle-ground probably Aloe excelsa, right large multibranched is Aloe barberae (old name Aloe bainsii), and behind that in very background is probably Aloe marlothii.

He certainly did- one of the most amazing and carefully landscaped succulent gardens I have ever seen. I have seen gardens in Thailand this carefully and artfully constructed and maintained, but I rarely see anything like this here.

Wow, beautiful photos and a spectacular nursery (at least I am assuming it's a nursery.)

The more I see photos like this, the more I yearn for a life in CA. Heavy sigh.

Looks like they've upgraded their succulent plantings since last I was there...looks very good! Thanks for sharing those pics.

For decades I picked up Petrified rocks,Malachite boulders (green and weigh a whole lot) Abalone shells,Conch shells,half giant clam shells..corals and coral rocks...lava rocks,driftwood,Ironwood. and left over aquarium white sands and colored gravels.
Thanks to these Sherman Garden posts..I have them in use!..and it does look nice!..Abalone's pearl next to my little pond is calming. Conch and C.metalica...
How California. I like it.!

California Fusion Gardening (pat pen.) Euphorbs with Broms,King palms and Cardon cacti. The great Hardscape ties it together or its just a lot of plants close together,like my garden is. I try!
