Kumquat going nuts

Hi and thanks for reading my posting. I have a nice established potted Nagami Kumquat tree. I'm in Los Angeles, where the tree gets plenty of sun on the south facing side of the house.

This summer it looked fantastic. Full, flowering, followed by lots of fruit.

Suddenly, tons of interior leaves are turning dark brown, curling and falling off. The fruit has gone from glossy to dull and begun to turn orange (prematurely I think). At the same time, there's lots of new growth.

I'm perplexed. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael

Kumquats can be a little finicky,A sudden change of light can cause problems,and possibly your tree is not getting the amount of water it requires.If by chance it does loose most of it's leaves,you can always prune your tree and re grow. This is one of those situations where if it was my dilema,I'd start from the ground up. I'd pull the tree,check for critters, check roots,repot,feed properly & fertilize get a water meter.***Suzanne

Thanks for the advice, Suzanne. I think your water suggestion is the right one. I have a bunch of dwarf Eureka lemon trees, and I've been treating the Kumquat the same, i.e. letting the soil dry out before watering. This tree along with other citrus in my garden were hit by leaf miners this summer Errrrrrrr. It's aparently a new thing for citrus in Southern California. So there are a lot of crazy looking leaves on all my orange and lemon tress. Aside from this, my Kumquat seems to be critter-free. I'm scared of doing the whole digging, repotting thing as I'm a new gardner, but I will get a water meter per your suggestion.

I really appreciate your time and suggestions.

it appears to be from a website with bargains.com in the name. Is that a site you frequent and have a user name and password for? I would go ahead and run an updated malwarebytes scan to make sure you dont't have something hinky going on. Always a good idea to run malwarebytes anyway occasionally. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware that is the free version stick with the free one.

I can sense how overwhelmed you feel by the many choices you need to make and the many options for colors you have. If you want help picking a color for a specific room, it might be better to start a new post about that room only and post pics only of that room rather than the slideshow.

Debbie Branka, Sorry, this is OT for the thread ... Calypsos won't run with the lid open unless the safety lid switch is bypassed so you probably have not seen a full view of the Calypso wash action. Have a look at these videos, and explain how dry spots could occur with all the load continually exposed to the pumped water flow during both washing and rinsing? The basket rotates clockwise at 60 RPM to saturate the load through the flow. The load rotates counterclockwise through the flow and rolls over from inside to outside during nutation (when the wash plate wobbles). Calypso - short clip - the fill level is a bit low in this example. The recirculation stream varies in volume, which it wouldn't on a proper fill. Kenmore Calypso - This is not a full cycle, the clip is edited/shortened to show a few phases. 2:08 is a fresh water spray for one of the several rinsing periods. It sounds like you've already put swatches up on the walls. Trouble with that is, you can't move them around and they often fight with one another and influence your perception. I'm a fan of getting a large sheet of foam core and cutting it into 4 pieces. Paint two coats of colors you're sampling. You can use the flip side as well, but be sure to note which color is which. Make sure you let them sit awhile and then move to another part of the room. At least you won't have paint swatches all over your walls. I almost chose Simply White for my cabinets. It's very nice and not super bright white in my kitchen. I ended up going with Cloud White which is a hair softer.

Michael, I believe many of your leaves are browning because of the leaf miner. That is one bad disease. I don't know if there's a cure for this problem, but I'd really do research.
I'm sure there are ppl here who are undergoing this problem..I hope they can help..Toni
