Toni,

Some pictures of my white ghost befor it died. It was about 8" long with roots when I got it.

And look what happened when I moved to photograft it.

I tried to graft it to a section of reg. lactea that I had growing in the window.

Stush...your Euphorbias are absolutely gorgeous.

Have you tried rooting White Ghost horizontally? Lying flat on soil?
Other Euphorbs root lying on their sides..including leaves. Maybe White Ghost would too???

Strange how your Cristata is growing..Guess that's why they're called, Mystery Plants, or so it's said.

I never tried rooting the top part of the graft; heck, don't want to touch it. lol. The Monstrose I bought at HD is the first grafted I was able to keep.

I also wonder if variegation, lack of Chlorophyl has something to do with being hard if not impossible to root?

Watch that sap..some ppl are allergic..Wash hands after touching, and be careful it doesn't squirt in your eyes.

I didn't have a chance with mine, (white Ghost). Rotted and turned to nothing. So fast I couldn't believe it. Must be the all white clone. No substance to it. That's another reason I loved your 1/2 & 1/2 ghost. Need some green to keep it healthy. The section broke off for me. I didn't want to mess with that. I am lucky the sap doesn't brother me. No ill effects what so ever. Sill I washed my hands when finished. I don't know if all euphorbia's sap is the same? Looks the same.
As far as laying it down. I don't like the looks of it growing on the ground. I like it tree like. It grows true to type from cuttings.

I don't have the answer. I have a Tropica book. The pictures in it seem to back your descriptions of the difference. The plant I have clones of I have called E. ingens. It came without a name from a neighbor. I have never thought it was a E. ammak. My I.D. confusion was between E. ingens and E. candelabrum. Here is a poor mood shot I have on my screen. The shots I took today will not appear as I failed to note there was no card in the camera. This has the growth spurt summer/winter affect you mention in an old "tall Euphorbia" article you penned. The fruit are concentrated at the growth tips. They stay yellow and succulent. The spine shields are mostly small. New growth from the bottom has some mild variegation that goes away. The trunk becomes grey/brown and tree like as it matures.

It turns out even transparent roofs shades a lot of sunlight, Tracy. Before I installed the panels on my pergola I had to double the bug screen where I have my semi-dormant winter growers. After the roof installation I then had to remove the extra screen. Gladys' hoop house looks like it has double-wall polys so while it is bright, that's still a lot less harsh than direct sun. I should've warned you, sorry. Every time I get plants from Arid Lands I email them back to find out if they have been in a hoop house or under direct Arizona sun. Pagan

I would not use dish soap on plants. Many ppl do, and it is widely recommended, but only soap safe for plants is plant based, like Castile soap. If fungus, and you want to tray home-made spray, make it from cinnamon powder diluted in some hot water. Let stand overnight, shaking it couple of times. Strain thru some cheesecloth, dilute with water and spray. This could be made using rubbing alcohol instead of water too (do not heat the alcohol). And the plant will smell nice too :) If mealy bugs, dip the q-tip in rubbing alcohol and wipe them off. Maybe you should try this to see if it comes off. If mealy bugs, whole plant may have to be sprayed since they like to hide and are sometimes hard to see. This treatment could be repeated if necessary, and while spraying the plant (with any spray) - keep it out of sunlight.

Beautiful pictures you two!!!! I LOVE the crested ones! I am getting one now.

Toni, I gave you a cutting with more green so you would have success with rooting it. It will be fine. Just give it lots of warm light and in a dry porous mix, and it will root in a month or so:-)

Hey Toni, Stush, Mike:

I had a cutting of this last year that died on me; never rooted, then shriveled up. I have 2 tiny cuttings now I hope will root, no sign of top growth yet...But I think both the regular White Ghost and the crested graft are stunning plants.

Now I wonder if anyone was ever successful rooting White Ghost. ???

Stush, I'd have to go back to the other thread to reread how you lost your WG..How did it rot? Was it kept too cold?

I too like tree-shaped, but some Euphorbias root lying down. The new growth grows upwards.
Did you ever place a Euphorb leaf on soil, or a leaf fell in the pot, lying horizontally, and it rooted?

Once a leaf sprouts, babies continue growing, 'vertical' or can be removed from parent/leaf.

That's the reason I wondered if placing the Euphorb leaf horizontically, it'd grow little sprouts..

BTW, are you planning on buying another?

Mike, your WG is BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the stripe down the center..What unusual variegation.

Mike, how tall is your WG? And white size pot is it in?

Thanks for dipping in rooting hormone. Wish I was as optimistic as you, lol. You have faith in me, but I haven't any faith myself. lol

Hey Christopher! May I ask how and what you did (shriveled Euphorb) to root WG the first time?
Also, how are you rooting cuttings now? What type of medium, and which position? Light, etc...

I Googled rooting, WG cuttings, but NOTHING worthwhile popped up. Maybe I'll Bing or Ask. There has to be some info on rooting a GP.

I bought the white ghost from Bob Smoley's Gardenworld. It was already rooted. Came bare no soil or pot. I potted it up and all seems ok. When I brought it in for the winter, I put it on a drafty window seal. Too late to save it. But I will buy another one. Although I have one growing on a crest that reverted. I could cut and root it. I don't thing I would have any problem as long as I wait till summer when the temps are warm. Also the growth will be larger to work with. I was also hopping to get a section from Mike of his 1/2 and 1/2 ghost. I don't want to chance hurting his plant so I will see what Bob Smoley has this summer. It was only $8 plus shipping.
