Merry Christmas to all

Season's Greetings, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Cottage Garden friends! I just finished cleaning up the kitchen after what seemed like a marathon session of making Mexican Wedding cakes (cookies).

It is chilly here today. It snowed last night, but most of it has melted. It was my puppy's first significant snow. She had a blast playing in it.

I have three fallen trees I need to deal with from the wind storm a few days ago. Luckily the trees didn't fall on anything, except the ground. The trees were old and dying, so it is just as well that they fell--no stumps.

I could use the exercise of doing some yard work! I'll cut smaller branches to make kindling for the wood stove. I'll probably chunk up the trees into manageable pieces and use them as log barricades where dogs might try to dig under fences.

Right back at you Lorna, have a great Christmas and a fabulous New Year. I think of you every time I make your sour cream scones :o), DH loves them.

Thanks - I hope others post pics of their Christmas cheer so we can all smile :>) Mehitabel the only smell from Percy smells like parafin to my husband and me. Not offensive but it doesn't have the beautiful smell of the Bob Betts or Chia Lin. I hope everyone gets an orchid gift and not a lump of coal in their stocking. Brooke

Good morning, exhausted elves... And now, let the detox begin. Too much food, too much sugar, too much butter, too much wine and egg nog, and too much love and good will. No, wait, you can't have too much of that. But I always know the reveling is done when all I want in the world is a big bowl of steamed broccoli and a cup of tea... Today, it is raining and gray here in central Virginia, there is nothing on the calendar and no one in the guest room, the coffee is in the thermos, the leftovers are waiting in the fridge, the kitchen is relatively clean, and DH and the kitties are snoozing under and on the comforter. Bliss.

That is wonderful Josh!!!! I think it's also in part of our locations. They are very sun sensitive. That would explain why people in the UK and Canada have buds/blooms way before we do. I also know that if you leave a window cracked at night they'll set buds regardless of light.

Having a lovely Christmas Eve - 5-year-old cheddar, Borganzola cheeses and crackers. Lovely Australia Chardonnay, and I am about to cook some butterflied shrimp. Yummm....a perfect evening. Listening to 'The Shepherd' on CBC, then I will watch 'Miracle on 34th Street' - the 1947 edition.

Ah, Annette, I think of you, too. Your frozen lemon mousse dessert has become part of my repertoire. :) I tried making Babas au Rhum for the first time on New Year's Eve. YES!!!

Nancy, I must have a nice selection of cheeses at Christmas, simply must! I usually do shrimp, too. :)

Schoolhouse, my garden is not too merry right now. Unfortunately. some of the dogs got in and ate most of my winter greens, roots and all. I still have a small bed of arugula producing, protected from frost by an old window propped up over the bed.

Hi Lorna a very happy new year to you, you've been missed girl. I made my frozen lemon mousse for the gang last night I didn't have any, sent what was left home with the kids so I wouldn't be tempted. I was such a good girl over the holiday season, giving myself a big pat on the back, not that this little sacrifice is going to make much of a difference, Sighhhh.

Your dogs ate the greens??? I never knew dogs would eat those, but I guess they do enjoy grass now and then. Do you have alot of snow right now in New Mexico? I've always wondered it you guys get snow. My geography lessons didn't stay with me.
