I am a movie fanatic who never actually gets to go see movies. Pre-Benjamin, Nan and I would go every couple weeks. For almost 7 years now it's been very hit or miss. We get out to the movies maybe 3 or 4 times a year. The sacrifices we make for our children! lol.
Nan and I would like to go see Sweeney Todd. Tim Burton = gothic opera = our cup of tea. We'll try and and find a babysitter in the next couple weeks.
I've heard Charlie Wilson's War is great, but I wouldn't even bother with that one, as Nan has ZERO interest in anything remotely political.
I hear No Country For Old Men is good, too. The Coen brothers have a pretty goof track record.
I'd like to see I Am Legend, too, despite hearing conflicting reports on it.

I went to see I Am Legend. I was disappointed, but I have to admit it takes a lot to impress me.

We have "No Country for Old Men" on our list. We've been Coen fans since "Oh Brother".

There is one coming out tomorrow with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. I sure hope it's good because we really like those two actors.

So...here we (DH, DS1, Charm and I) sit by the fire on Christmas Eve. This is the most relaxing Christmas and birthday (22nd) that I've had in 4 years! :-) Why? Because I'm not hosting the "big" Christmas meal tomorrow -- for a change! I've got a few things to cook to take to a SIL's house, but those are easy. I'm just sitting here with my wireless laptop, watching TV, chatting with the guys! Nice!

Caught the tail end of Oprah last week where she was pushing her latest movie endeavor. Don't think you can get much better than Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. I only skimmed the attached review but it looks like one I would like to see. It opens in theaters Christmas day. If you see it, please let us know what you thought.

DH and I saw National Treasure: Book of Secrets yesterday. It was what we call a "popcorn movie" -- we went to a matinee at lunch time -- ate popcorn instead of a real meal -- and didn't expect great meaning or profound acting -- simply entertainment. It was fun! Of course, nothing in the movie is really possbile, so suspend disbelief and don't pay evening rates! My archaeologist son wouldn't go with us for obvious reasons! :-)

It was a rainy day yesterday! Another rainy day tomorrow after our sunshine today.

My favorite movie of the year is August Rush. The music was spectacular. Loved Ghost Rider too.

For rental I highly recommend La Vie En Rose. French movie about France's most beloved singer Ãdith Piaf.

I love adventure movie's. For holiday wanta-sees The Golden Compass, National Treasure and The Water Horse.

I can hardly wait to see the new Indy movie coming May 2008. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

DS1 went to see Walk Hard and enjoyed it. Being huge Johnny Cash fans and loving Walk The Line, I don't know if we'll catch that one. We've got friends coming over tonight for dinner and there will be lots of music -- everyone brings their guitars, mandolines and banjos.

DH and I watched the old To Catch a Thief on TCM the other week. Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, etc. Well, we loved the scenery. So...we're going to the south of France in May! We had enough frequent flier miles for free tickets to Nice. Then, I was able to get a timeshare week (7 days) in Mougins for a 1 bedroom apartment. Then, we're splurging for a seaside hotel for 2 nights in Nice. We'll do lots of hiking -- there are trails everywhere along the Cote d'Azur. Crazy right? Nah. Life is short.

DH and I are also entertaining the idea. We'll fly to England and take the tunnel to Paris. My cousin (who lives in England) is discouraging us to go in April/May. She says it rains too much. Looks like we're going in June instead.

Haven't got a movie to suggest but had to mention I love the old movies on TCM, in fact I'm addicted to all the old film noir movies like "Laura" with Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Clifton Webb. "The House on Telegraph Hill" with Richard Basehart and William Lundigan etc. etc. I'm keeping my eye open for "The Second Woman" with Robert Young and Betsy Drake. I can watch these movies over and over again, there's just something about these old black and whites so I've started collecting them. I've sent for TCM's new 2008 catalog :o).

No new movies to report on, however, since this seems to be evolving into a trip tick I'll jump in.

Edna...You will be so close to the D-Day beaches when you make your trip over to Paris that if you have never toured that area you really should do so. Versailles is also a must see. DH, DS and I were there in 2006. If you want info send me an e-mail.

Cameron...Everytime DH and I see a movie or a travel show about Germany we want to hop on a plane so I fully understand your "instant" adventure. Sounds like a wonderful trip.

DH and I are planning a trip in May. I'm doing research now on taking VIA Rail Canada from Toronto to Vancouver. We want to see Niagra Falls and then take the train to the west coast of Canada. I have always wanted to go to British Columbia and see Butchart Gardens, Victoria, etc. We are thinking once in BC we will rent a car to tour around and drive south through Oregon and Wash on to CA to see the Napa Valley. Everyone I mentioned the train trip to says they hear it is fabulous.

If any of you have ever done the train trip across Canada I'd love to hear from you.

All this talk about travel plans has me wanderlusting.

Vikki got me thinking about movies which involve trains. One recent rental I enjoyed is The Station Agent. Quirky, but sweet story of unlikely friendships. Others which came to mind are Before Sunrise, a romance, and of course Silver Streak.

For some reason, I always think of Mrs. Miniver when I think of the English countryside, the war, trains, etc. And, of course -- THE ROSE -- entered by the train station fellow. A great old movie!
