Hi ThinMan, we're in for it up here too. On the news tonight the forecast is for the coldest winter for all Canada since 1994-95. Lots of snow this winter as well, in fact it's supposed to start falling tomorrow.
We've been spoiled the last few winters, those of us that have been pushing the zone limits for plants are probably going to lose a few. I kind of expected this as it has skipped autumn this year and gone from summer right into winter.
The good thing is we might get rid of some of the snails and slugs that have been plaguing our gardens the last few years. Take care everyone.

TMan ~ I do hope you and yours stay safe, snug and warm in your homes. Please take some pictures of your wintry weather if you can. You have such beautiful scenery covered in white. I know you all get sick of it, and I would too, if I lived in it. I would be eagerly awaiting spring again. But, we barely see a change in seasons and to see pictures of where garden friends live and garden in all seasons is great.

Annette ~ May you all stay safe, snug and warm also. It sounds like you are in for some very cold temps. Getting rid of the snails and slugs will be a good thing. I hope you don't lose too many of your 'limit-pushing' plants.

Yes, the storm is supposed to arrive here in Mass. on Sunday night. I have a long commute, but I'm very lucky that my mom lives near the hospital where I work, so I'll plan to spend the night with her.

I always hear two voices in my head when driving on snowy, icy roads:

From my husband, "Small moves" (refering to turning the steering wheel)
and similarly from my dad, "Go gently".

Yay, snow! I don't mind it in December, but after that I'm ready for it to be gone.

I think they're only calling for six inches here. But the snow will change to sleet, then rain, then back to sleet. They're calling for 1/4" of ice, which would be the worst part. We'll see how we do.

There is sleeting today and this evening..and lots of it. They are suggesting there are strong possibilities of downed power lines as a result. We rushed this morning to decorate our outside before the sleet made that a nasty job. We were just finishing up as it began. Yuck...Yuck..tho it does help you feel like the holiday season is upon us.

I just talked to DD in SLC. The snow just stopped and they got a FOOT of the huge flakes that the Utah bench is noted for. We had 68 today and I was SWEATING while RAKING. We will have 30's Mon and Tues and then back to 60's. No rain. Bummer. c

I heard that the storm that just left us in So.Ca. was heading toward Utah and Colorado. Maybe that's the one that will also head up north? I hope it doesn't do any damage to any of your lovely homes and gardens.

We were happy to have had that storm here, though. We really got dumped on and that's a good thing considering the drought we've been in for so long. Now it is bitterly cold, going down to the teens at my place, and the winds have been howling all day. Most of the moisture is supposedly gone from the remaining clouds that are hanging around the mountaintops, but I won't be surprised if there's white stuff on the ground in the morning. Time for hot cocoa!

TM: That's beautiful! I wish I would have taken a photo of the snow this morning. We only had maybe three inches, but it was the sparkly, super-fluffy kind that just shimmers in the sun. Loved it! It's changed to rain now and they're calling for ice later.

It has been raining since just after supper. We were supposed to be missed but thank goodness we got some. I hope everyone is warm and safe. We will be back to lovely weather tomorrow. c

We got a tiny bit of snow, lots of sleet, then lots of rain. Saturday was a nasty, messy day. I plow snow at a hospital so I had to be out there all day keeping things cleaned up. The ice on the trees was beautiful sat. night, but was all gone by Sunday morning. No pics, unfortunately. Sunday started out in the mid 40's and slowly dropped all day. Today it's sunny but pretty darn cold out.
Benjamin was so excited to see snow falling. He kept asking to go out and play in it but there's not much you can with a 1/4" of snow.

I was wondering about Ohio, mr. Thanks for the report. Glad you didn't get slammed. Some of northern New England is supposed to get a foot of the stuff today, but I think it will mostly miss Patti.

The snow continues here in northern Michigan, but it's a drier snow today with the temps down in the low 20s. We missed most of the freezing rain yesterday.

Thanks for posting the winter wonderland pics. There is something really magical about that first snowfall. As a child growing up in upstate NY, I still remember the excitement of that first storm and, of course, getting out that flexible flyer and heading to the nearest hill.

TMan ~ Thanks for those pictures. Brrrr! I'm sitting here barefooted and we have the a.c. on. There is something lovely about snow, but I'm glad we don't have to deal with it. It would be hard to get used to. DH has lived here since 1957 and I've lived here since 1960. I do hope we get some chilly days though this year.

Keep warm and snug you guys and enjoy that hot chocolate.

Well we've started with a "pre -storm" storm, the predictors are all over the map about tomorrow. We are on the coast so our weather here in town can be quite different from the weather only a few miles away. I hope everyone is safe and sound in the middle of these storms! As some of you know, I work for a multinational company and we have offices all over the world. Yesterday there was a worldwide mail warning that our Montréal office was running half gas due to the storm. They were warning about possible delays in dealing with projects, since a part of the workforce hadn't been able to get to work. I later talked to one of my fellow Project Managers there and he told me it hadn't been fun to skid all the way to work! I cannot imagine enduring such thing!

The storm seems to have gone around the Denver area. I kept waiting but all we got was a tiny bit of rain. Today we have a wind advisory. I hope it dies down later. I really want to get my garlic in the ground before we get more snow. It's hard to put the leaves on top for mulch when fighting the wind.

Well of course I am in the path of a winter storm. LOL! Its been snowing here for a few days. At least its light and fluffy snow. But its really cold with the wind. Another grey dreary day....time to pull out those photos from last summers garden.

Over on the Far North garden forum gallery, they do the alphabit threads......so we have lovely photos to stare at from everyones garden....helps us dream and forget what its doing outside. Sigh! Its also time to go through those catalogues and decide what to plant next spring. :)

Checking in from Ohio...Sleet, wind, little snow, wind, rain, wind...Here's the Biggy... WIND! We had six arbs that we replanted in the Fall laying on their sides and some others leaning like the tower of Pisa. It's down in the low 30's high 20's with gusts up to 40 mph. Can't get out to repair and hoping their toes don't dry out. I'm not real hopeful and it's a shame cause we replanted 30 trees in the maze and can't get out there to check on them all, only what I can see from the house.

Thanks, TM! I 'm really enjoying both scenes. Mark looked at the first one last night and immediately said he wanted the barn in the first one for his wood shop. Typical, eh? ; )

We're expecting rain and snow tomorrow. I'm hoping for mostly snow. It soaks in the ground better and is much prettier to look at at, not to mention more fun for the neighbor kids to play in. Heck, I may even do a little sledding myself. : )

Diana - I don't know if you will see this late post, but if Mark is ever serious about the barn, I'd be happy to show you where you can get the plans. I had a great time building it and use it for tractor, lawn mowers, and other garden storage.
