Can I keep Dianthus Amazon going for a second year?

Dianthus Amazon has been a great flower for me and I've been growing it as an annual, ditching it at about this time of year when it runs out of steam. Have any of you up in my zone or colder ever tried to winter it over? I could throw some straw on it pretty cheaply, and probably keep it from freezing with some decent snow cover, but I don't know if it will bloom well next summer. I also grow regular biennial Sweet Williams for an early bloom, but I could always use a few more.

Any thoughts?
