Small Succulent ID; Black Prince Question; & pics

I've read the article here on identifying stacked crassula varients, but I'm still not sure about this one. It's just a stem but it's blooming now. Anyone know for sure on this? Here is a pic:

Also, I have had a Black Prince Echeveria for about two months (got it with roots), and it is slowly loosing lower leaves. At first they were just shriveling up, but I have lightly tugged at a few that were on the lower parts of the plant and they come loose way too easily. They are slightly yellow and black splotched. Here is a pic of the picture - the outer edge of the leaves just is a little darker (browner/purpler) than the rest, but come loose way too easy and are headed to the same fate as the other leaves I've lost off it. Is it too much water? Should I refrain from any misting or watering at all now? (since I took this picture, the leaf on the bottom right here has come loose)

About that also: if a plant is a "winter grower" (like Aeonium, Crassulae, etc.), should I still limit the water, or are they ok to have more water than something like Echeverias in winter?

BTW, my best leaf growing experiment (I've only been trying my hand with succulents about two months) is this one - my friend said it was a molded wax agave, but I don't know yet for sure. The little plant just shot out of it and had multiple leaves on it even before it sent out a root. About starting plants from leaves - how often should I mist them? I have a few laying on a bed of sand/perlite/cactus-mix. They are starting well, but I don't know how delicate those fine roots are that are coming out of them. Does it help to sprinkle sand on them, to mist them every few days, to just leave them alone? Advice on that would be appreciated - it's probably the most exciting part of messing with these succulents for me so far: getting to see a plant come out of a little leaf.

A Stapelia (variegata I think) - from the same seller, but three sections broke off in transit, and I am trying to root them in another area, though the "cuttings" (or "fallings-off") seem to be really slow to send any roots out at all.

And finally, a jade plant that I got last year - I was inspired by all the talk of pruning here, and last summer it didn't get much water at all and lost a lot of lower leaves, getting very leggy and the stems were hanging over the sides of the plant (very wobbly), so I just decided to go ahead and trim it on down a few weeks ago. It has been starting back very well since then. Even the stem sections I kept with no leaves on them are putting little leaves out (though no roots on those yet).

Wow, a lot to comment on. I'll address a couple of your questions/plants.

You were very brave, and did a great job wacking your jade back to a leafless form. It looks like it is growing well. In the spring, re-examine it and perhaps remove some of the new growth leaving only branches growing in the direction you want.

The Black Prince may have been a little over-watered, but it looks good in your photo. Leaf resorption of the lowest leaves on the plant is normal, especially this time of year. The plant is shedding old leaves, and growing new ones fast. Don't worry about this unless the leaves turn yellow, and somewhat translucent, but are still plump. This is rot, and immediate action will be necessary to save the plant. I don't think you have this problem now. Be careful about removing too many of the leaves. Only those that come free without any struggle at all should be removed. It will tolerate a lot of watering (or rain) during the winter. I have several living outside in the cold and rain blooming their heads off. 'Black Prince' is a mealy bug magnet, keep a eye out for the little white buggers. :)

Echeveria 'Black Prince' is a cultivar. The 'molded wax' plant is Echeveria agavoides, a species. There are many cultivars, or variants of this plant, and also many hybrids. Yes, the small roots are Extremely delicate. Do not try to move the leaf start at all. You can bury the lower part of the rooted leaf a little by dropping pinches of soil from above.

Your picture looks very odd for a couple of reasons. The lowest part of the leaf (where it was attached to the stem) is where roots will emerge. New plant(s) will emerge above this point in a small cluster of compact leaves. Your stemmed new growth looks odd. Also, agavoides has pointed, triangular leaves, and it looks has though your start is growing roots and a new stem from the narrow end, not the wider base. Could you show a better picture of the leaf and new growth?

Yes, you can water 'winter growers' in the fall and early spring, but the usual "water only when dry' rule still applies. Winter growers actually grow in the autumn and spring, but not so much in the dead of winter depending on the environment.

this is second pics, actually I already moved it to this smaller pot and make the rootball exposed again to the air and put it back to the coffee table next to glass door in my apartment. I don't think this is too much water, it looks dry on the yellow leaves...is it stressed out because I moved it with too much sun? I thought echeveria like fuller sun...or maybe because I never water it thoroughly because of traumatic with all the leaves drops and rotten before? when it gonna grow new rossettes on the stem>? I read it will grow new rossettes head on the stem, is it true?? should I water it or just let it be...?? please advise soon...help...i dont want to lose this again

"Flamed" you? Hardly. You posted a question about your container mix (pea stone then a mix of compost, peat moss, garden soil, and bone meal) and to that you wanted to ag. gypsum to cure your BER. What I said was that your container mix was already so far off the common norms for ideal container growing - especially in such a small container - that based on the information you have provided and this late in the season (it was Aug. 5th) it is going to be really difficult to get any usable tomatoes out of your set-up no matter what you do now. Better luck next year. I then went on to link you to the BER FAQ abd suggest some research into what are considered acceptable container mixes and why such things as you listed were not recommended. savemysucculents, Humidity in Singapore is not to be trifled with--we're not talking about pithy 50 percent or even 60 percent. For most of the year, the air will have moisture of over 80 percent, going closer to 100 percent during the monsoon, even with the heat. So I think your idea of getting a grittier, airier mix is a good one. Assuming you are raising these succulents outdoors (balcony or your yard, if you have one there), what I suggest you use for substrate is crushed pumice (readily available in KL nurseries, I'm not sure about Singapore) and crushed coconut shell with the powdery bits sifted out. The gritty mix is all about the rough similarity in the size of the particulates, and only secondarily about the actual components. The particulate size most often suggested is about half a centimeter and definitely remove the fine bits. You will do well with just these two ingredients, tweaking the proportions as you learn both about your watering habits and how the plants adapt to it. If you are okay to spend more, you can substitute akadama for turface. But if you can find pumice there so close to the Pacific Ring of Fire, I wouldn't even bother. In point of fact, you will do fine with nothing else but crushed pumice, provided you fertilize them. I am sure a lot of people have succeeded growing succulents in LECA balls but it is a skill set that is just too esoteric and involved for my lazy bottom. Finally, keep these kids out of the monsoon. Nice collection, by the way, though that sempervivum makes me nervous (i). They are alpine plants that do not handle humidity well. They probably survived Ikea because the air conditioning kept the air dry. I hope this helps. Pagan

Eta: I typed this out a little bit ago and forgot to submit so I hadn't seen the other responses when I did actually submit :) It's hard to say without photos. I'm wondering if dabbled shade was not enough light for it. How often were you watering? And when you did water was it a deep thorough watering? What kind of mix was it planted in? My black prince was my very first succulent, before I really understood their needs. I initially didn't water quite often enough and I definitely was not giving it enough light. Across the span of maybe 4 weeks, it changed from the dark purply color to bright green and then lighter green. The leaves started to droop downward and were floppy; the leaves also seemed further apart and it became slightly etiolated. With that said though, it definitely was no where near death and has made a comeback (makes me wonder if something else was going on with your plant like a pest or something). I put it in better soil (50% perlite/50% c&s mix) and provided much more light. Here are before and after photos. May 15 June 11: (Has gotten darker since then)

Thanks Brad. I wasn't sure about that agavoides ID either, but it will take some more growth before I can figure out what it is. I wanted to wait till spring to prune the Jade, but it was so wobbly that I thought it would be better to just go ahead with the cuts now.

The leaf (in pic above) is the only one I have seen that did not first send out roots. It just shot out in a few days a little plant that quickly got larger, then it started sending out some roots below - but it's way faster than any other I have had. The plant doesn't have the narrow tip that I've seen on agavoides elsewhere, so I'm puzzled about that and think it's a different one. It's a big shiny/waxy leaf, very thick too.
