Kinda silly halloween question

I spent my early childhood as a city boy living in a suburb a bit north of Detroit (Royal Oak, if you're interested). When we went out on Halloween night, everyone would always yell "Help the poor!" at each house, and we referred to what we did that night as going begging.

After my family moved north, I found that I was supposed to yell "Trick or treat" and everyone called it going trick-or-treating. I've always wondered if "Help the poor" was unique to my old geographic area. I noticed in a Gallery post that MeMo mentioned the kids going begging, which triggered my memory and this post.

So, my friends, what did you you yell when you were a kid? At least one inquiring mind wants to know.

P.S. Anyone ever make a window knocker for Halloween by notching a wooden thread spool, putting a nail through the hole and wrapping a string around it?
