More fun and games from the Rose Forums!

These are several fun stories, proffered by various rose forumers, and each is hysterical in it's own way. However, they ARE addicting, so the following is suggested:

Follow the links (if I get them to work), and then just copy & paste the whole thread(s) to your Word document, save it w/ a name you'll remember, and then, next winter, during the first good snow or ice storm, make a cuppa, print these out, and enjoy! If you just bookmark them from here (your computer & the garden web), you'll likely return to them later and find those magical words: Can't Find the File You Requested!

But DO read "A Typical Day on the Rose Forum" first. Like right now! It is just TOO funny! Make sure you read the folowups, too! And then read about the Adventures with Compost Tea. They're both recent. The Suicidal Gardenia is L-O-N-G, goes over SIX years, it's 2, 100 post threads joined together and ARCHIVED, for goodness sakes. Maybe Cathy's post about Cut Your Own Flowers will reach that status one day! And one of the ALL TIME FAVS is the Dogs in the Carcass, saved by a guy named Cactus Joe.

OH Susie- that dog in the carcass thread is too much! Such a funny find, along with Cactus Joe's dog in rose bush story.
I've said it before and I hope to say it a thousand more times before my time's up: I LOVE Gardenweb!

I found another one! Someone else added this to the general discussion of funny threads. This one was so funny I laughed at it as I was going to sleep last night! The person who provided the link said it was appropo re all the alfalfa tea stories going around!

It's called "The Famous Squirrel Story". Horse & Horse Feed afficianados might also get a "kick" out of this!

We've returned from our weekend trip to visit Will and Ivy, and I'm trying to get rested up from three days of playing "trains, planes and automobiles" with Will...got to hold Ivy a lot, in between our playtime. Will is still adjusting to his baby sister...wants to touch her face, tickle her, and is somewhat rough with her, at times. I would really appreciate ideas on how to handle that situation...and so would my daughter. Wish we lived closer so I could see them more often...and give my daughter a hand with babysitting. She lives in a very nice neighborhood, though, with lots of mothers with young children and babies, and they are very supportive of each other. Will was the world's worst eater, starting right after he turned one, and we were so worried about him. His diet mainly consisted of spaghetti,chicken nuggets, bananas, sometimes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and soy milk or juice. He finally started to eat more things last year and now will try a lot of different foods. One thing that worked for my daughter was to serve very small portions (sometimes on plastic "play dishes"). I think the bigger portions looked overwhelming to him, and it was easier to get him to eat, if it was just a small amount (which she would add to, if he seemed like he wanted more).

When I did a hang out room for the kids years ago I did it with the thoughts that all tops needed to be nearly bullet proof, the sofa had to be leather so I could clean it, I would revamp used things so I would not worry about things getting destroyed and the room had to be suitable for adults as well. I do not have a picture of the sofa area on the other side because that area is now an office but the sofa was leather and matched the drapes (and hit dirt). Those bar tables on each back corner were rusty and used so I painted the base stalk to match the used bar stool bases and added glass mosaics to the bottom and painted the tops adding several coats of poly. The picture frame came from a thrift store and I added my own mixed media art on top of an old painting I also painted the other picture. The room would only take a small pool table, I bought it used for $150 and had it re-felted. The coffee table near the sofa came from a garage sale and I added a bullet proof granite top. On top of the coffee table was a very cool antique brass chess set (from a garage sale). I also had two ottomans near the sofa and coffee table in reds, raisin , purple and teal tapestry fabric for extra seating and also because it would not hamper the pool playing in limited space. From that area (sofa) you could view a wall mounted TV for sports. So, even though the room was not large I still had areas, areas for game playing and TV watching, areas for snacks, and the center for pool playing.

I got a 0 too! I drove DH nuts a few years ago trying to find the perfect shade of off white paint with the right undertones. They all looked the same to him. Great stuff! I read all but the one by/of (?) the funny Australian woman. I'd read the Dogs in the Carcass story before, but it's funny enough to bring tears to my eyes the second time around. It's got to be made up - you find the things that just don't pan out when you read it closely - but who cares? The squirrel story is great. The gardenia post is hilarious. Wish I'd read it BEFORE killing several gardenias in my cool, foggy California coast garden. Did anybody besides me notice that ALL the responders who grew gardenias easily were in hot, humid climates? Gardenia plants shouldn't even be sold in other climates, but as long as people will buy them, they will be for sale. I wonder if there's a similar post about Daphne odora anywhere. That's another famously suicidal plant. I couldn't prevent two out of three of those from committing suicide (also in California), with the one surviving plant deliriously happy, and absolutely thriving. Same location, same treatment for all three, all three the same variety. It's enough to drive a gardener nuts. I haven't tried those here, and don't intend to. Plants have to be very tough to survive here. Just the idea of planting a daphne or gardenia here is enough to make me snicker.

Oh Susi --- I needed a laugh today!! How funny is "A day on the Rose Forum"!!!! I was on the floor!
