Here are some rain cds I compiled the last couple days, in anticipation of rain that finally arrived last night--glorious rain, as Cameron knows--after so long a hot and dry July/August/ half of September.

I've got a couple of different versions of the first one (my husband and my elderly neighbor, who really needs this, are not rock fans), and I think the second one needs more work. Any suggestions? As you can tell, I'm not up-to-date on modern music; I had some of my own, downloaded from itunes, listened on youtube and rhapsody for the more modern stuff.

Sorry for lurking so long. I did the seed exchange with y'all a couple years ago. I've lost so much in this drought ( and the one last year) that I've been very discouraged about gardening lately. Thanks to whoever sent the dianthus siberian blues and orange/yellow cosmos--they are truly drought tolerant here!

that's a lot of research! Great idea! My DH plays guitar, mandolin and banjo. He's going to be playing at a get together with some of our friends next weekend in Greensboro. I'll share this with him and maybe they'll play a few!

I don't know if you're interested in any additions, but a couple that that popped into my head are Dylan's Rainy Day Women #12 and 35 and CCR's Who'll Stop The Rain? (Very popular in Texas lately?).

Oh, Kippy! You are SO generous! Thank you (NOT)! LOL! You're very welcome to collect the ones which have grown since the last rain several months ago from just down from the house here. They should make marvelous holiday decorations with sufficient gold spray paint! I'm glad you're more relaxed, Ingrid. I know the feeling, except for watching for the little green shoots starting to creep from under the soil... If you have that nasty invader in the shadier areas of your garden, that means there is water there. It grows where there is water, from Mexico to Canada. It CAN be eradicated,but it does demand herbicides. If you dig the tubers and leave them in the direct sun, they shrivel and die (vampires!), and I have done that with literally several hundred over the years. I've unearthed quite a few the size of a V-8 American automobile engine and they shriveled and dried up once exposed to the elements. Others have been "dispatched" with buckets of "the devil's brew" herbicide we won't mention, with the tendrils wrapped around inside them so they sucked it up like wicks. Debbie, try to remember what the 5th Dimension sang: "Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in!" Maid, I'll bet they're happy when I water them with rainwater, especially now since the days will be shorter and I stopped fertilizing (MG Bloom-Booster). Maybe before long, I'll see developing penduncles or even buds!!! LOL, I know the dreaded cold white flakes of winter will be here soon! But I don't mind since that means Christmas, sled riding and hot chocolate! I was out on a walk the other day and saw one of those fuzzy "winter forcast" caterpillars crawling on the road. I hate to say there wasn't much black on it's tail as the stripe was broad... oh well. No flooding yet but still rain and clouds for now. Brad AKA Moonwolf

That looks like a real nice 3"+ bulb of Music. I can't seem to get my Music to size up like that here. I have better luck with the German White porcelain. I assume you are growing in the north somewhere. Prior to this year I had to dig my garlic out of wet ground 2 years straight. I harvested early this year to avoid that again and probably lost some bulb size because of it.

Melissa - glad you are with family, and that everything worked out well for your Christmas and DD's birthday. Sometimes I get sort of out of sorts in the Winter here lately, but it is because of TOO MUCH sun (b/c of our on-going drought), not a lack of it. In the wintertime, the sun is low in the sky, but that just means it seems that it is usually in my eyes - makes driving harder. My DH and I have not got children, but we have lots of extended family, all reasonably nearby, so we hosted a Christmas Eve party for 9 relatives and a couple who are good friends of ours, went to a 14 person (also all relatives) Christmas Day dinner nearby, and are looking forward to getting together with MY side of the family (9 more people) when they get back from skiing in the Sierras in the middle of Jan. The dinners were all at homes, and home cooked food, and it was so fun that there were 2 little kids at our house - we made stockings for them. To my astonishment, I found an art supply store in our town (which carries lovely greeting cards, which is why I was there), which had a huge display of well made small toys, etc. which were exactly what my DH and I used to get in our stockings in the mid 1950s! No electronics, let alone anything to do with the internet. The kids were enchanted, which is the point of everything, I think. We also had some bad weather lately - which made everyone ecstaticly happy! It rained 3 inches a few days ago, and they tell us that will start again tomorrow, for another 3 days. Where I live, most of our water supply is from reservoirs on our local mountain, so if it does not rain, we have a water crisis, which has been going on & on in recent years. In the storm a few days ago, when we got 3 inches of rain, that watershed got 6 inches (which is of course why they put the reservoirs there in the 19th century). Lots and lots of snow fell in the mountains, which is why 9 members of my family, who all ski, decided to spend Christmas up there. I echo Cameron in saying that that looks like a lot of work.
The only other one I could think of was Red Rain by Peter Gabriel. Good song.

Well, we're still singing "Wish it would rain" here! The dew is helping some with the garden.

Besides having a poor squirrel come drink out of the garden hose when I was watering a potted plant, I've seen him licking the dew off the edges around the swimming pool. We have a salt water filter, so he can't drink the pool water. The deer are still coming up to our water feature to drink. They're out and about in the bright afternoons, too. Nothing to drink in the woods.
