Orange Mushroom ID needed

I posted two photos in the NAME THAT PLANT photo gallery of Orange mushrooms I came across. I have never seen mushrooms like these and would appreciate any information.

I ÂdiscoveredÂ them Sept 20. The top of the largest ones are about 3" in diameter, the cluster is about 12" high, and they are the color of a pumpkin. The tops of the mushroom looked leathery and very smooth. They were growing against the north side a large rock, with tall grass in front of them, in mottled shade, about 5 feet in from a country road.

Carol, how about link us to those images....as I cannot find them in the Name That Plant forum. You could post them in the gallery in this forum, or just link them in this thread.

Opps, I am new to this forum and do no know how to upload the pics in this message. Please copy and past link into URL, The second pic in theshould also be my mushroom. Please let me know how to link it correctly

I never saw the flowers even though I make it a point of hiking through this area regularly. Due to the chewed off tops, it is quite possible if I had visited a few days or a week later I may not have seen these plants either. bboy - not sure if you are referring to the plant's odd name or if you think they were eaten by horses, but on that note, while I was looking up info about "horse gentain" it was noted that nobody really knows why it was given this name :-)

Doesn't matter in this conversation, raydun. The fact is, we do not know the identification of this mushroom. It may resemble a delectable species, yet still be highly poisonous.

You can thank my trouble sleeping for this late-nite/early- morning bit of online detective work, but I have found out that these are common bark lice, also called "tree cattle" because they just hang around and graze on the lichen and fungus on the bark of your trees. They do no harm to the tree itself. The stripey ones are the juveniles and the angular black ones are the adults. Here is a link that might be useful: What's That Bug?

Looks like old damage. Suggest you mark each spot with a permanent marker and, then, check every several days to determine if more damage is occurring.

Common name Jack O' Lantern, Poision, often mistaken for Chanterelle. Glows in the dark if fresh.
