I bought this Fukushu Kumquat at the nursery today and repotted it in the Gritty mix, and noticed that near the scion there is a strong sprout growth. I'm worried it is the citrange root stock as the label says. However the leaves look identical (if only slightly larger). Also the "water sprout" stem looks slightly oval instead of fully round, and has thorns; where as the older stem has no thorns. But there is a stem coming off after the scion which looks the same, so I may be worried about nothing; but would like some opinions whether I need to cut this stem off? After looking at citrange leaves I don't believe it is citrange, but it was just very close to the scion so wasn't sure if it was the root stock trying to take back over.
Thanks, Bill
