Hello Sharon, the one Black Pearl that had sprouted has now rotted. The weather was surprisingly hot and the temp inside the propagator got too warm so unfortunately I cooked it. I have since been keeping them a little drier and am switching the power supply off during the day. I had it set one hour one, one off as its not got a thermostat. I have done a 12hour standing shift today with no break so only took a quick peek at them on my return home tonight to see some others have now germinated!!!....I was too shattered to take much notice so will have a closer look tomorrow and report back as its now almost 11pm here. Left me preface this by saying that most of the cautions about washing Jade roots off when re-potting apply to seasons other than Summer and mixes other than gritty mixes. However, this is High Summer....and you're in zone 8, so I have very little concern advising you to wash the old mix off the roots. It's inevitable that roots will tear, and typically you'd want to dry the roots or re-pot into a dry medium....but, again, it's High Summer and you're using a gritty mix, so I'm not concerned. I say rinse the old mix out, re-pot into your fast-draining mix, and water the Jade in - wait approximately a week to water again. I suppose I should ask how large your container is? If it's a huge container, go easy on the water. Josh

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the tips. Cactusmcharris, Sorry if that was confusing but if you saw the post where I had the pic, you would have seen what we are all talking about. I bought this and got it about 4 days ago now. It was bare rooted when it was sent to me to save on shipping. I in turn had to pot it back up and try to get it to re establish in a new pot. Hi Josh! Great to hear from ya! I have used rocks when I am rooting my plumeria cuttings and i thought about doing the same thing with the jade. I have not had it move since it fell out on the 2nd night. So far so good. I did water it all ready. I actually watered it in the first day. It was in a box for about 2-3 days and I have noticed some leaves shriveling up and dropping. I know it is normal but it made me want to water it more and Lorraine(fom K and L cactus.) I think I will put it out tomorrow and see how it does. I will slowly intoduce it to light. I want to keep it indoors since it looks so great right now but I know it can continue to color up even more and our nights are getting cooler. I know next week we are going to warm up again so maybe I will bring it back in again. Thanks everyone for the help. Andrew

It looks like it's been getting enough light, whether it has been getting fertilizer is secondary right now. That leaves us with water and soil, and they very much go together. I cannot see the soil, but that is what I zero in on. It looks healthy enough to handle a repot into some fresh, quick-draining soil so from what I can see that is where I would start. Perhaps minimal pruning right now, enough so that you can get your hands in there to do the work. Once repotted, give it healthy amounts of food, light, water and temperature until Spring. At that time, you can prune for shaping. When you repot, if it looks marvelously healthy you could consider a harder prune right away. The key will be firm trunks and lots of healthy roots. You can search for images on google to see how crassula ovata grows in nature, but if you like the jungle look I'm sure it will comply to a degree. Btw, the term baby jade(I assume your using that term because it's small) was mistakenly given to portulacaria afra as a nickname, a similar plant in similar habitat. ez
