Your bulb in the garden in California may not go into a dormant period, depending where you are in California. Nornally it will bloom in May in the garden. Here in Sunset zone 15 they always go dormant when the weather cools. They are planted with 25% of the bulb above the soil in an area shaded from the west. Drip irrigation keeps them growing all summer. I remove the daughter bulbs and plant them separately. I do not fertilize the planting bed but do keep it fertile by additions of compost spring and fall. Red Lion is probably the most common of the Amaryllis sold for Christmas time blooming. Those canes that you have today... they won't produce any fruit this year but they will be your fruiting canes next year. Blackberries put up new canes each year, which flower the following year, then die (but are replaced by new canes, which fruit the following year, and so on). The canes your plant puts up next year (2015) will be MUCH bigger than the canes you have currently, but won't fruit until 2016. This year your plant is just establishing a good root system and basically getting ready for next year, as next year will be its first full year in your garden. When your plant produces fruit next year, don't pick the berries as soon as they turn black or you will disappointed as they will be sour. Leave them on the canes for an extra day or two until they get softer and lose their shininess and become a kind of a dull black.... yummmmmm!

The answer to that is usually: It was planted in a spot that is too shady; it was not pruned twice per year; or it was propagated by cutting from a non-flowering parent. Modern wisterias should be grafted. Walls facing south or west are the best areas for planting wisteria. They need lots of light and sun. The soil must be rich; if it is not, you should amend it with well-rotted compost. Finally, pruning is important. Tie in all the stems you need to extend the plant where you want it, and snip off the rest of the stems to about finger length. Cut right above a bud. You do this around January time. Six months later, about July, you should prune it back about one foot. Then, the following January, you take it back to finger length again. Feed your wisteria once or twice per year with a high potash food. You can use rose fertiliser; it is rich in potash. You could feed once in February; and then again in June. It really depends upon where you live and how fast your plants start to come into active growth after winter dormancy. It also depends uponw which type of wisteria you have: wisteria floribunda or w. sinensis. It is late spring for Chinese wisteria (w. sinensis), or early summer for the floribunda. If your wisteria still does not produce much, I would think about replacing it. It probably has not been grafted. You could get one that is, and you check this by seeing if there is join somewhere along the main stem. It looks like a knobbly joint a few inches above the surface of the soil. Grafted ones have proven their flowering and will continue to do so with the right care.

because it hates you???? ,,,, lol whenever i hear about a plant growing greenery ad naseum .. but no flowers.. i suspect overfertilization ... in a formulation too high in nitrogen ... hence the greenery .... as compared to the other numbers, of which, one of them is for flowering ... also .. you are in zone 5 ... is the sun strong enough to stimulate flowers ...?? if you are relying on the window... you might not have enough light ... perhaps a few more facts will lead us to the answer .... good luck .. ken
