Four Winds or other suppliers ??

Can anyone share with me any info on this company ? I see that Clifton's is often mentioned. The price difference is significant. Since I am in AL> I have to consider the cost of shipping too so can really add up.

I grew a Lemon/kumquat cross since last year and have had fabulous success. It is in a huge clay pot in a walled garden and is very happy and full of fruit and blooms again this year. I would love to branch out , no pun, and get more lemons particularly the Santa Teresa. I have called around here and there are no sources. In fact nurseries say that all citrus trees are in short supply due to the Louisiana supplier stopping. So any help would be appreciated. thank you c

Yes...On Four Winds?

The best citrus tree supplier I have ever ordered from.
They take great care for their trees, and probably spend alot of time and money to keep them that healthy, shipped to you as healthy as can be!!

Therefore, the high cost of shipping probably. But the extra I pay for shipping is worth the trees I get. Never had aproblem with any of them. All grow so well!

The customer service is superb. You get great directions on care, and top notch packing, and quick delivery.

That is the only place I shop now, even though I live all the way here in Mass. If you get more than one tree, you save on shipping..

Hope you find a good citrus source..:-)

Thank you ! I want the Seville and the Bergamot orange for sure and a couple Itl. lemon...I want to make limoncello. My son is a chef and loves to use things I grow. You should try the lemon-quat. You won't believe the amazing preserves that you get from it. Thanks again. c

I've ordered from both. I'd use 4winds. Mostly because bare root plants are preferable in my view. You can put them in a quality soil that will last without having to bare root them yourself. Much less traumatic for the plant and far less time consuming. The plants from 4winds will likely be smaller than the ones from Cliftons. Shipping will probably be less with 4winds. I wouldn't be put off by the bare root plants. If you pot them the same day or the next day they will be just fine. Put them in a grittyish mix or at least a high bark % mix and you will be pleased.

Well I just repotted my oro blanco- it's Four Winds repotting week on the forum lol!! I noticed that the tree was in a mix very close to a proper 511 and as a result I found it incredibly easy to cleanse the roots of the old media. Compared to the record buck trees it was a breeze! Another major point for For Winds! Did you guys notice that too?

The problem is that not all varieties and sizes of trees that I want are available at the same time. I pay the outrageous shipping because I ordered elsewhere and was not happy with the quality even though it was closer to home. Buying in bulk is good only if you are just starting a collection and have lots of money to invest. FedEx ground is good and trees are not damaged after being in a box for 5 days. FW does a good job with packaging too.

I don't have a Eureka, but my Meyer Lemon flower buds are clearly much brighter/darker purple when they are outside vs inside. I was surprised how big the color difference was

I've always been happy with my Four Winds trees, but they are my local supplier so I don't have to pay shipping. They are very responsive by e-mail too, in my experience.

I get trees from them in the spring. Every one has arrived healthy and with a decent root system. Every one has also had minor interveinal leaf chlorosis, but that's probably the time of year more than anything. Once they are potted and the weather warms up it goes away.
