Moss is more of a symptom than a problem in itself. Moss likes shady, wet, acidic and/or compacted spots where it doesn't get much competition from the grass. Fix those conditions and the moss will fade out, but be aware that the fact that the grass faded out the first time may be telling you that conditions are marginal at best for grass growth.

It is set to go off every night for ten minutes and I only have it turned on when we're not getting rain. From what you're saying, could this be a lot of my problem? Ding, we have a winner! It certainly isn't all of the issue, but it's causing some of it. Watering like that encourages weeds to sprout because seeds like to be damped down daily. This year, try playing it more by ear. Water the grass for an hour or so (set out a tuna can to measure the actual amount of watering) only when it starts to wilt. That'll discourage weeds and encourage good strong roots on the grass. What would happen if I spray all the dandelions down with vinegar? Would I have a kazillion brown spots in my lawn? Forever? Temporarily, yes. What happens over the long term depends on the lawn. Fescue and ryegrass don't spread very much, so the hole should be reseeded. Kentucky bluegrass can spread about the size of a baseball per season so it takes care of its own small holes (it goes faster if well-fed). Right now I must have a thousand small brown dead holes in the lawn. The old dead stuff will drop off and disappear in a week or three, and the bluegrass will fill it in by the end of May with no trouble.

David, a high-end nursery might be thrilled to offer these on a consignment basis. You could print a laminated card with instructions for care, perhaps tied to neck of a spray bottle of distilled or spring water. Include on the card your name, contact info. I can envision a decorator using for tablescapes for fancy affair, so maybe a florist who catered to museum/art gallery/big corporate functions might be a possible contact. They spend hundreds for cut flowers...and are always after something new and different. Price your creations for the unique beauties they are...but don't forget the snob factor. Sadly, people only really appreciate and value something for the money they spend, not necessarily its intrinsic beauty. Good luck....josh P.S. I know you would hate to think of it happening to one of your lovely landscapes, but there ARE people (with more money than good sense) who would buy something like this for their patio and after a few weeks let it perish, just as they do huge Palms and tropicals planted in spring which often need replacement before midsummer because of poor/no care. They treat potted plants like cut flowers...and don't seem to consider expense. So charge enough to give them at least a twinge in the pocketbook if not in their conscience! josh

I don't know what the reason for the obsession is. My DH has it bad. I could easily live without a front lawn at all. The lawn is a constant frustration, I keep wanting to enlarge all of the beds by a foot or two, he says no. It is lumpy, weedy, mossy and I'm afraid I'm going to break an ankle on it one of these days it is so uneven, despite ten wheelbarrow loads of sand and compost spread on it last year.
