Inexpensive sources of Agar

We posted awhile back and it seems others have wondered about it so we are posting our findings in the hope it saves others some time.

We found Agar was very expensive via the Agro/Science sellers and not available at all in our area in "Scientific" form.

Then we found it being sold as a "Dietery" product in the healthfood stores at about $6.50 an oz. "Now" [brand]

The Oriental market had:

Eden [brand] Agar Agar flakes was $1.37 /oz

Eden Foods Clinton MI 49236

Telephone [brand] Agar Agar powder was $0.99 /oz

The basic nutrient in the commercial Agar was beef broth and yeast extract also the grocery store in the vitamin isle.

The skinny on the Agar blends is here:

We will try to post back any negetive results.
