Need help with Kaffir Lime

I have a kaffir lime tree/bush that I planted from a seed about 2 years ago. It is now about 3 feet (1 meter) tall. About a month ago, I moved it from the pot to the ground, thinking that being in Texas, it would survive the winter outdoor. After replanting it to the ground, I saw tiny leaves starting to grow, which brings me much delight. However, the tiny leaves seemed to stop growing...in other words...remain tiny. And the other leaves also look yellowy (it was yellowy when it was in the pot too). Our backyard dirt is unfortunately like clay. When I moved it to the ground, I used the remaining of my potting soil to fill it up. I am a beginner gardener, and just have been lucky enough not to kill it yet. So, what should I do to make it healthier? Do I need to do some trimming? O, and another thing..do any of you experts know how long it takes for a kaffir lime tree to bear fruits? Thanks so much.
