eBay users bidding

Hi,, I'm keeping my eyes on some brug cuttings and even more brug seeds that are offered on eBay right now or in the next week!!

I don't want to bid against a fellow forum member- would it be okey to post what you are bidding on?

On DG forum, they actually have a list of member's eBay user names.

Course, now, if I really need it, all bets are off! LOL!

Well, I'm am not bidding right now due to lack of fundage.

I know what you guys are talking about, there has been a draught of interesting species. That's what I'm usually looking for. 3 or 4 month ago however I decided to lay on a goodly supply of Catt hybrids, something I have never been into much. I have 3 adult daughters who raid my orchid collection carting off blooming plants to decorate their homes. I get them back when they are finished blooming. Also a friend recently died of pancreatic cancer and I kept her home full of nice plants. All of these people rerally dig the Catt hybrids and have little appreciation for a Lepanthes with 1/4" flowers. No, Nick, sadly not all people check what things are worth before bidding. I had lost a particular Encyclia species a few years ago and was looking for another to replace it. Not overly rare or anything, but not always easy to find. The dealer/seller put one up on eBay for $15, a very nice plant, which was what they sold it for at their orchid website. So I bid $15, it wasn't important where I bought it from them. Next thing you know, the bids are flying in. Once it went over $17, I went to the website and bought one that same day for the $15. The frenzy continued and the eBay plant ended up selling for -- I think it was about $60 or more. If my memory is correct, a second one they posted up afterward also sold for big bucks. A lesson I learned long ago: always check the price and availability at online websites before bidding on anything, even a toaster.

Rare Anthurium seeds for bid on eBay - BEWARE!

For anyone out there still tempted to bid on these supposed "seeds" of "rare" Anthurium, I'd like to share with you my exchange of email with the seller. But first, a bit of background. There is at least one plant on the list of plants being offered that is so rare many have been searching for it for almost 20 years! The photo used was stolen (along with many others) from the International Aroid Society website. This seller is offering 5 "seeds" for about $2 as an opening bid! I'm not going to tell you which plant, but if you've followed my by website you can figure it out. The plant was once on the cover of the International Aroid Society journal and many of us have been trying to find it for years! A botanist is in South America right now looking for the specimen since new information recently became available. And this seller supposedly has seeds of this very rare Anthurium for $2.00??? The seller has now admitted they don't even have any of the seeds offered! Here is the email exchange: I asked via eBay email: "I noticed you illegally stole the photo of this plant and many others from the International Aroid Society website. Your infraction has been reported to the officers of the society. I'm curious, do you even know this species is extremely rare? Do you know that there is not a botanical garden in the Unites States that even has one? Do you have this plant? Where did you possibly get seeds of a plant this rare? Makes me wonder? Are you even legitimate? I think I'll report this to eBay as well. Right now!" And the seller responded: "Hi, Actually the seeds are at US. I am just a trader not a botanic expert. I buy several seeds through internet and again sell them. The photos and descriptions were sent by the seller. I'm aware of the photos but the seller says that we are not selling mother plants just seeds so the photos are for just to give an idea of the plant, what the buyer should expect from the seeds. Thank you for your interest. Kind Regards, ladybotany" Some of this sellers offerings are now up into the hundreds of dollars for 5 "seeds"! Seeds that are likely nothing more than "make believe". Seeds the seller admits they don't even have! So, is anyone foolish enough to bid on seeds the seller admits they don't have? Seeds, some of which are so rare botanical gardens can't get them? From a seller who admits they know nothing about Anthurium species but still calls themselves "ladybotany"? From a seller who will steal photographs in order to make the sale of "seeds" from plants they don't even possess? From a seller that uses a Hotmail address to cover their tracks? From a seller who is not even charging enough in postage to safely pack and ship any seeds at all? From a seller whose only feedback is from things they've purchased, never sold?? If you are still willing to bid on any of these "seeds", I've got a bridge in New York City I'll sell you cheap! You could make a fortune charging tolls to cross that bridge! This smells exactly like a cleverly disguised scam! And the seller didn't even do enough homework to be clever! This offering is obviously aimed at the people of Indonesia who are willing to pay very high prices for Anthurium plants and seeds. What was it P.T. Barnham supposedly said about a "sucker born every minute"? This one is looking for a bunch of suckers. And they will probably find them unless eBay stops this entire mess! I just Googled Frosted Mouse Ears, and see that one place has Royal Mouse Ears, Frosted Mouse Ears, and another new one, Holy Mouse Ears. Gorgeous pictures. They also have Green Mouse Ears, which a number of other places also have. Looks like they are the supreme "mouse finders." Nature's Reign is the name of the site, very sorry to say they apparently aren't ready for sale yet. ~Bunnycat

Ditto EVERYTHING Daniella said besides the user name! I am wildflower444444 and I try very hard to stay in control with ebay. So, if any of you ever see me bidding, keep your paws off or I'll put you up in the greenhouse when you come to Margaritaville.

I'm not planning on bidding on anything but I wasn't planning on buying anything in the wee hours this morning either. If I do get the urge to bid someone had better outbid me. You'd be doing me a favor. I'm definitely not looking for anymore seeds. I have too many to start as is.

lmao @ u guys..Wildflower, I'm sure I'd be very happy in your greenhouse! I may not be bidding right now, but watch out after xmas!! I get totally out of control on there, so damn addictive. I wouldn't bid against someone I knew, but if by accident I did, I would share...if I won enough, lol.

I must be missing the BIG picture...LOL I didn't see that much...(she is soooo much smarter than I am..LOL) I have SEED!!! and I will share...............e~ me and I will tell you what I have and if it is something you are interested in it is yours...
BTW.. a very generous trader sent me some seed that I will share with anyone else ..It will be just a couple of trades .. First come first serve...LOL.. Brenda you need to share your seed growing techniques(okay I can't spell)I for one would love to know.. I have only started them once and have nothing to show for it..LOL

I'm not bidding on anything - I'm trying to be GOOD (grin).

No secret when I'm there - I'm technodweeb-2007.

As of right now though - unless someone is going to use a heat pack - I can't order anything, it will freeze. High of 23 yesterday.

But when the spring comes? LOOK OUT (grin) I have tried not to bid against anyone here though. I generally try to check that first.

I think i accidentally bid against blicon a couple of times before - didn't mean to, I didn't know he was a forum member.

Boy it's gonna be a long winter waiting. (grin)
