different 'family'? brug

I know my terminology is not correct but I keep hearing to reference to 'sanguinea' and others and wonder how do you find out what family a named variety belongs to. Thanks, Marie

gardengal70, let me add to the confusion with the classifying of the wild species of Brugmansias as
Arbores, aurea, insignis, sanguinea, suaveolens, versicolor and vulcanicola. There is a whole new classifiying of those Hybrids that can go on forever. Please if you haven't gotten the Brugmansia Bible please do so! Ulrike and Hans-Georg Preissel's book Brugmansia and Datura / Angel's Trumpets and Thorn Apples is well worth every penny! Filled with lots of good reading and the photos are even worth it.

karma is right and I double recommend that book. When I was starting to get serious about brugs I bought Preissel's Book and it really helped clarify things for me. I'm so glad we have garden web because there is so little information on the net about brugmansia and even some nurseries don't have much info on them.

I don't have the poppies you're looking for, but I am interested in your Blackcurrant Swirl datura. Take a look at my list and LMK if I have anything you're interested in. I also have cuttings from brug 'Charles Grimaldi', one of the nicest yellows, *I* think. (*grin*) Also---how do you root your Blue Sky Vine cuttings???

That's really interesting if you think about it...I've never purposely planted a cutting upside down but now I wonder if this would be the result. Maybe I'll try a couple and see what happens.

Daturas are short lived perennials. They typically grow no taller than 4' and the flowers face up to the sky. They are commonly called Devil's Trumpets because they look up to the heavens. Brugmansia's are tall shrubs with their flowers looking down to the earth hence the name angel trumpets. They used to be both lumped into the genus of brugmansia but now are seperated. Both are in the solonaceae family and are highly toxic.

I agree that the Priessel book is a must,especially for those of us fairly new to brugs.You can find it on Amazon at a decent price.
