Those darn gophers are at it again!

I had just planted my Lisbon lemon trees less than three days ago and I noticed that the Lisbon lemon tree was looking distressed even though I watered it well since planting. When I tried to move the stem it was loose as a canon!! What I suspected came to pass - the darn gophers chewed up the stem and roots:

My question is this- I have replanted it in a large pot with potting soil and a bit of compost. I also watered it wtih Vitamin B and Superthrive. Do you think I can save this poor tree like I once did with a rose that also was chewed 90% by a gopher.
