Off topic ebay seller Im curious!!!

Okay Ive got one for yall I placed an order on ebay and the guy had plant markers metal ones for .99 for 5 buy it now. shipping was 5.00. I bought 10 sets. I was under the impression ebay didnt allow padding on shipping. This guy emails me a 63.00 charge just for shipping and says it is fair. when I complained about this pice he said it dint include insurance and he will have to add more to the cost. That he makes up his difference lost in price through shipping. Am I wrong or him. I told him they would fit in a flat rate box easily. I also emailed him the rules that he wasnt allowed to pad shipping so he said he was gonna mail every item I got in a seperate envelope. I got a handful of seeds. I would get like 30 packages in the mail form one purchase. The invoice sent said all items were being shipped together. I told him he wasnt very enviromentally friendly and it was ridiculous to do it that way. I see others selling100 labels for 8.95 shipping and i was getting less than that. Sorry i had to vent. He just wont listen to reason. He has 100% feedback. I guess Im venting and making sure im not being a snot. I bought from him onetime before and he combined shipping bu it was a small order. Am I being to pushy and just need to cancel the order?

As a web designer who specializes in horticultural websites, I have experience with this situation! This is a big issue with web designers. Images are very easy for thieves to find. All they have to do is search Google Images. It helps if you don't put the name of the plant near the picture because then the Google Image spider doesn't know its name. But a plant without a name? Very unlikely. You can complain to the company that hosts the offender's website and they should insist that the stolen image(s) be removed or they will cancel their hosting. I can't imagine that working very often. E-Bay has a host of workers who are working to keep up the reputation of E-Bay. So by all means complain to them!!!! Printing your name on the image would help, as it takes some effort to remove it. I use a "no right click" script on every webpage. It means that people cannot simply right click and save the image. However this only works for websites. I have noticed that there is at least one image hosting website that does not allow right clicks. At this moment I cannot think which one it is, but do a Google search for "image hosting" or "photo albums" and test for yourself. I am not sure, but I am under the impression that the "no right click" script stops the Google Image spider for grabbing the image for its index. Since I have set up pages with this script I no longer see the pics in Google Images. One of the reasons I stopped blogging is because there is no way to protect my images. An image-laden website that I do a lot of work for has had numerous images stolen before I put the "no right click" script in place. Since then none of the new images have been stolen. The worst thing about having images stolen is that if the viewer sees an image on two commercial sites, then how are they supposed to be able to determine who the thief is and who took the original? So both sites can potentially look bad. It would also be worth it for many of us to contact this forum and ask if images can be protected when placed on the forums here.

Buying from iris sellers on eBay with highly rated feedback, doesn't always mean you are going to get an honest seller. I bought 12 different named hybrid irises from the-country-garden on eBay because this seller had great feedback and has an eBay "TOP SELLER" rating. This seller shipped fast, answered my questions quickly, and the rhizomes arrived nicely packaged and labeled in individual brown paper bags. The seller even sent me a BONUS-Starship Enterprise iris. But when they all bloomed the following year, they were all common old fashioned purple. I am hearing the exact same story from dozens of other buyers that purchased from the-country-garden. They all say that they gave positive feedback to this seller based on the transaction--up front. But, a year later, when they realized they have been scammed, they cannot go back to give negative feedback, because it is too late. This leaves the-country-garden with a high feedback score to entice other unsuspecting buyers to purchase from her. The recommendations of honest sellers that have been mentioned above are all good. I have also purchased from hisirisgarden.com and hisirisgarden on eBay, tn-tigger on eBay, and at bluejiris.com. They are all licensed growers/breeders and are very reliable.

I bought quite a few plants from Vermiculite 1 on ebay last year - her plants are wonderful but her shipping can be slow - but worth waiting for. Hostabargains, bentley gardens and oakcreekgrowers/Casita Azul are very good too. Hostabargains mainly sells small, but very healthy plants, Casita Azul's are larger. Bentley sells divisions, full plants and tc's. (Both Bentley Gardens and Casita Azul [ilovehostas.net] have websites. I have been very happy with my purchases from all three. Clayton3887 on ebay has sent me some very good plants. He makes sure you know the size of the plants from him. Unfortunately, I think I have found HVX in a small number of my other ebay purchases from last year, so I have mainly limited my ebay buys this year to those mentioned above. I hasten to add that there are many good sellers on ebay whose plants don't have HVX. You just have to be careful! Also when you buy from ebay, the size of the plants, or divisions you receive vary wildly. And watch out for the cost of postage and handling - it can add up very quickly. I use my copy of Steve Greene's Hosta Finder to see if any mail order nurseries have the same plant and compare cost/size etc. Tony Avent at PlantDelights has a brilliant catalogue, but his plants are, in my opinion, very over-priced and I have found them to be very unreliable. I spent a lot of money on unusual hostas and about 80% died. This was before I knew about the other wonderful mail order hosta growers, whose names feature regularly on this forum. I thought it could have been the great difference between N. Carolina and Connecticut growing conditions but may be not. I have had very bad luck, in the last 3 or so, with White Flower Farm mail order hostas and, believe it or not, columbines. If they didn't die the first year, they faded away to nothing by second or third year. They, like Plant Delights, are relatively expensive. A big disappointment so I steer clear of them. Thanks for the suggestion deeinohio, but i had the problem before when I was trying to upload another photo that didn't have the word bat in it. Well, it was battery, but I don't think that's the case. It has been suggested over on the eBay board that I change my browser from IE to Mozilla Firefox. I am scared to do that, although people swear by it, and it seems to help those that have had the upload problem. I just hate to change the whole look of my browser page. I've become so use to it and it's easy to move around. When the new upgrade for IE came, I upgraded, but hated the new format, so I went back to the older version. perhaps that could be the problem. I keep getting messages from YouTube and other sites that I need to upgrade my browser. I'll see tomorrow. Going to bed!

My thought also. You DO have a right to cancel your order within a certain time...even on ebay!! Been a while but I am sure it still is the same.

You know when I read markers...I thought oh no...you bought from the same guy I did and got screwed. A while back I ordered markers and something else. Well I SWORE it had said you get 5 markers for the price. But you actually only got ONE for the price. SOMEWHERE in small print he had mentioned it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr boy I read EVERYTHING NOW!

let E bay know also. If he already send it...you never know...REFUSE the package!

Sorry that you hooked up with a crook. When I browse e bay and I see offers for things saying : pay 1 dollar....I already know that SHIPPING will be outrageous. So I usually stay away. But HE IS DOWNRIGHT CRAZY!!

Ouch, that hurts! Cancel immediately! Ridiculous that he would want to charge postage for each set separately to make up money. If they aren't going to be willing to take the chance that only one person will bid, then they should just put a "real" price on the item and sell as BIN.

Cancel. Order from Gemplers. They have great prices and cheap or even free shipping. I get all my plant markers from them.
What a psycho! You see those sellers on the Judge shows being sued. The ratings mean nothing as far as I can tell, they did improve their system but it still favors the sellers.

Thanks everyone Thats what I will do... My jaw hit the floor and he argued that there was no way to ship any cheaper and he looked and techically he hadnt charged for packing materials or insurance so the shipping would be going up! I told him he was padding the shipping and he wasnt allowed. He just wanted to argue. anyhow I guess ill be calling ebay today.

What did u buy? 6' 20 lb plant markers! lol I'd love to see the auction. Cancel and report it to Ebay. Save all correspondence and don't worry about negative feedback.

My bet is ebay WONT help you. I just recently bought something that had FREE shipping & then was charged to ship. Seller wouldnt reply & ebay told me to pay the shipping that was FREE & file a complaint later. I couldn't believe they told me that, but then if I didn't pay ebay doesn't make $$ so I guess I can believe it. After a week I did pay the shipping. The filed a credit card dispute & got my item & the shipping cost back & promptly left bad feedback.

Sounds like you seller is a crook. I would no way pay that much to ship, but I would be prepared to get a unpaid item strike against me. But that really wont hurt you at all. I would take great pleasure in making their 100%+ feedback less than perfect! You as the buyer cant get -feedback so dont worry about that.

I too would like to see that auction & want to know what ebay says.

Something similar happened to me once too with some coins. Taught me to always request a total before paying. Even if there is an issue when payment is already made, you can contact paypal directly, open a case and request a refund they will give it to you..it may just a couple of weeks.

Not true, the flat rate boxes from the post office can hold a lot of plant markers and the most expensive one is $14.95

This seller is wrong and you should be able to cancel. It's very important to email the seller before buying multiple items. Get the shipping cost in writing before buying.

I really like the new feedback because the seller can't threaten the buyer the way they used to.

Please don't let this slide! People like this seller are parasites who will just continue abusing the unsuspecting if not reported. I just hope Ebay will actually do something. That really stinks!

What a joke! I was going to buy plant markers- but the cheapest way I've found is to buy surveyors' tape- write the name on it & tie it on! Comes in bright florescent colors so you can easily see it on the plant. Cancel now & save your money!

Oh, this would chap my hide. I didn't know you could cancel an order, but I guess if it is a "buy it now" you probably could.

I love getting ebay on the live support. You can b*&^% away at them and keep it up. I would totally go after this person with whatever means you have. You may get a knock on your feedback but you can retort.

I ended up ordering from Gemplers and I think I will be pleased. very reasonable 100 metal markers for 38.00 with shipping... anyhow the deal was canceled and he agreed to change his listing. Now he is selling the 25 for buy it now 25.00. Way to high. I appreciate the support. Seems like these days there are just to many battles to fight. I would have gotten a strike before I paid that!!! They were just the normal 10" markers. LOL 65.00 Ha!!
