Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am getting rid of the bed that my clematis is currently in. The new bed will not be ready until spring. Do I need to bring the clematis in for the winter? Or would it be better off if I dug it up and placed it in a pot outside? Does it need to go dormant for the winter? What care should it receive during its indoor stay? Thanks.

I would suggest the following...

1) Wait till fall (around october) and dig up the rootball of your clematis. Get as big a ball as you can. You can then buy the biggest pot possible (18 wide 18 deep) and use nice potting soil and replant the ball DEEP into the pot. Wheel, roll or carry the pot into your garage, and maybe wrap some nice bubble wrap around the pot. I would also cover the top of the pot with a nice layer of mulch or straw. Put the pot in a sheltered corner. Wait till spring...when the Forsythia blooms, bring the pot out, and replant.

Thank you so much. This is only the 2nd year I've had it and it got off to a rough start this year. First it got frost bit in that freak cold spell and then I accidentally broke it off while weeding. There is only one lonely vine growing this year when last year is was a pretty good size for the first year. But it does have one bloom on it.

Ok, I'll try to address several of the issues, though not necessarily in order - sorry! The silver/gray color on the zuchinni leaves is normal. Many squash/pumpkin have that. Not all though. Powdery mildew, which looks similar, can come along, usually later in the year. It is more obvious - a grayish-white powder on the leaves. It is usually a symptom of stress, often too *little* water at the root. It has nothing to do with getting water on the leaves. It's not that kind of mildew. As long as the plants are fed and watered well they will avoid the problem long enough to mature the fruit. The stem damage looks like mechanical damage to me, so it may have been the tie. Those are definitely thrips you are dealing with. They're nasties that are not that big a deal outdoors but much worse inside, so may not be an issue when you transplant. Not sure about the browning on the edges of the bean leaves. Looks like possibly an over/underwater issue or perhaps a nutrient deficiency. Wild guess though... Good luck!

I have googled, searched every vendor at the AHS site, searched by hybridizer and a lot of other places. Does any body have any of the following daylilies to trade or etc. A Kiss for Kathy, Hendricks 2000; Molly Darling, Bellagamba 1988; Molly my love, Brown 1981, Molly's choice Fields, 1992; Molly's magic, Hardy-G 1995; Cathy's wish, Hendricks 1979. Or do you know where I can get any of them. I did try Golden State Daylilies but they have them listed but no way to purchase them and when I tried to call the phone # listed it wasn't right nor did I get a response from emails. Here's my latest attempt which I think addresses most of y'alls concerns...I hope Here's a slightly modified floor plan for the kitchen. What's different here is that we've moved the fridge to a new wall and recessed it into what was originally going to be some sort of broom-trash storage closet. We also flipped the DW and the sink because EVERYBODY says you can't have a sink at the end of a run of cabinets.... I like this idea because it frees up space around the stove...but now I'm not sure where the broom closet stuff is supposed to go? Where can we put the mop, broom, trash and recycling bins? We Still Need Help With The Closets-Pantries. Here's a different shot of both closets and the appliances we need to fit. How can we best utilize the space in the pantry closet for bulk storage and small kitchen appliance storage...and now possibly broom closet stuff also? Pretty Pictures. Here's what this current design looks like if you are standing at the stove and looking back at the rest of the kitchen. Sorry about the odd color walls...but the granite and cabinet colors are spot on for what we have now....yes our kitchen has a silly amount of granite... Here's how it looks standing at the corner by the fridge and looking back. Yep, lots of granite.... Here's how it looks from the dining room entryway looking into the kitchen. And here is how it looks if you are standing in the entryway and looking through the breakfast bar opening and into the kitchen. So, whats everybody think?

The mix looks very dark & peaty...what is it please? Crassulas prefer fast draining gritty mixes and can rot in water retentive soils. Also, the pot is on the large size for the small plant IMHO. Unless the rootball is filling almost all of the pot then there must be a large area of rootless mix....this can stay wet for too long as there are not many roots to take up excess water. I don't think a plant of that size would have large rootball? What size would it have been? Would be best in a smaller pot, then up-pot it as it grows on. Please be careful of plants being planted too deeply inside any pot, this one is on the verge of being like that, it's not too bad really, but could be set a little higher. Sorry if I'm sounding a bit negative about your efforts, but just trying to help :-) Are any of the dismembered parts in the second pic anything to do with this first plant? Gill

If the clematis is in the ground now and it were mine, I would leave it where it is and dig it up next spring when you are ready to transplant ot provided the bed will be ready early in the spring. I can see no advantage to digging it up now and overwintering it in a pot inside.

Okay after rereading your post this AM, I am unsure if the current bed is being removed now. If the current bed is going to be removed now and the plant needs to be moved, then do as shiao suggests. If it can stay where it is now until next spring, then I would leave it where it is until next spring and then transplant. If you do pot it up, the plant would probably survive zone 6 gardens outdoors. I have kept rather small pots of clematis outside over the winter here in zone 7a with no issues. Here is a shot of a pot that stays outside on the north side of my house and has done so for the past two winters with no issues.

If you want to add some protection to the pot, you can do as shiao recommened and wrap it with some bubble wrap, surround it with bales of straw, or even dig a hole and submerge the pot in the ground.
