No rush, Make decisions on how big you want the tree. If you plan to put it out for the summer, start acclimating it to sun light by placing in broken shade starting about 1/2 hour and increasing by 1/2 per day. Seeing your in zone 5 you'll probably want to do this at the heat of the day. Once the tree is out side it will probably branch out on its own. If you got an instruction packet with the tree, follow them very closely. Take your time, others will have specific advice pertaining to lemon trees. Hi Lemontreenewbie. I also wanted to welcome you here. I too am new to growing citrus . I started with three trees and in a few weeks they have grown to seven and about to increase again. You will find so much valuable information here. At first I was overwhelmed like you but Mike, Brian, Steve,Cory and others are very knowledgable . They are very willing to share their experience and expertise . I have learned so much from them and they are very nice people . I have several of my trees in the 5-1-1 mix and they love it. The rest will be repotted as well. I bare rooted them and they are growing very nicely in the 5-1-1 . No loss of flowers .It is light and drains well. As per the advise I have a feeding schedule and give them 1 tsp of dyna gro foilage pro with a cap of vinegar in a gallon of water every Friday. I water in between if needed. Mike suggested using a wooden dowel in your pot to check if it needs water. That works well for me.I have had some bud drop but Brian has told me that is normal for young trees as they will only retain what they can support. Kind of natures way of balance I guess. Recently I got a greenhouse so I can overwinter them but of course you don't have that problem where you live.. I too have found that the nurseries do give conflicting advise . Listen to those I mentioned here. They have been very successful and know what works. I really ,really appreciate them . Best of luck with your trees. If the rooted wood was mature wood, it is already capable of fruiting, The tree just needs to get some height to it. How was it that you got rooting wood off of trees at Lowes? Did you buy the trees or just snip some off their trees when no one was looking?

Steve, you crack me up...lol Just put aluminum foil around the buckets and you will have shiny ones too) Rene, now that your trees are outside they will grow back leaves suited for summer. You gained leaves that are use to lights not the sun and that is why you shedded the darker older ones. They should grow back. Becareful though not to put your trees right back into the sun right away or they will burn off. They actually look pretty good for being held up indoors for so long. Hope you are not in stoe for another winter blast like we are here in good ole New England( As for the bugs, I use Neem oil mixed with a bit if natural soapy water and drown/suffoctae the buggers. Not sure whay they are, too hard to tell. Did you use outside soil, or a bagged sterile mix? What kind of soil is that?
