New Meyer Lemon Tree Owner Needs Help

I just bought my Meyer Lemon Tree this week and have a few quick questions.

1) When I transplanted my tree to the container, the root ball took up most of the space in the container. I filled in the surrounding area with Miracle Gro Citrus Potting Mix because I have read that Meyer Lemons should be potted in a soil that allows for good drainage. My concern though, is with the root ball itself. It seems to be pretty hard and I would think the soil isn't especially good for drainage. When I scraped around on top of the root ball with my finger, you could see lots of small stringy roots so I don't think there's anyway I can get rid of some of this hard dirt and replant it in good potting mix. Is this alright?

2) As you can see in the 2nd picture, my first few lemons turned black. Is this a problem or is it normal?

3) The white on the leaves is a pest repellant that I just applied today. This is alright, correct?

4) Is there anything else in particular I should know about my Meyer Lemon?

Thanks for any help you can provide!!
