President Clematis - in small container - plant?

Hi! New to clematis and excited about the one I bought at the regional market last weekend ($3.50). It's in a small container (less than 1/2 gallon) w/ stakes in it that it's already climbing on (maybe 2 feet worth).

Here's my question:

should I take it out of the container and plant it in the ground until next year (I've been reading something getting them root bound in a 1-gal container) or put the current container in the ground in my flower bed? Did I make any sense w/ that question?

Thanks, in advance!
