OT Allergies, who would have thought?

I have been having trouble with red, swollen, itchy and scaly skin on my eyelids. Well I went to a dermatologist on Wed and she did some patch test. I am allergic to carba mix and thiuram mix. Well I sat there scratching my head until the doctor brought me info on the allergies.......Would you believe thiuram is in rootone with fungicide???? I think all of this started right after I got some new cuttings. I have used a rooting hormone before but I don't remember if it had fungicide in it or not and this was a new bottle. Who would have thought??? There are other culprits that I come into contact with but I thought that this one was interesting. Now I have to check the gloves at work and see what they have in them.

I am so glad that your dermatologist figured it out so fast!! Hope you completely recovered. Did you rub your eyes? Or is it the dust? Or got just on your skin? That is something to remember when handling that.

thanks for sharing your experience with this rooting hormone stuff we all use.

Okay, Ladies, here's the deal: I am a 3rd decanate Aries-this means that I HAVE TO KNOW, I HAVE TO INVESTIGATE, then apply that knowledge to my situation. I don't take anyone's word for anything, I HAVE TO FIND OUT FOR MYSELF. I would have googled for info on using HM, but the links on this thread made it much easier for me to gain the knowledge. For instance, I KNOW, from my own family history, that manure has been used forever in farming and gardening. What I don't know are (is?) the changes, the new ideas that have come along in the last 30-40 years. As a 3rd decanate Aries, I have a tendency to jump in and run with it with everything I've got, then run into a "roadblock", get discouraged and quit. In the last link posted on this thread, it talks about the "bad stuff" from manure getting into the water supply. My flower bed is going in about 10-20 feet from my neighbor's house. I don't know where their well is. This is something I should probably be concerned with, beforehand, and would have never known about, without that link. Aries people love new ideas, new projects, different ways to do things, different ways to go. We very rarely stay with anything for long. Photography is good for us, because it allows for something different all the time. My home is filled with projects that I've tried, and then discarded in order to move on to the next new thing, idea or project. I don't want this flower bed to be one of the "discarded" ideas, because I really need the flower bed! I am a novice at this, and before I jump in, I need someone to say "maybe this would be a better idea", because I really need the space this bed will provide for me, and I don't want to "goof up" in any way. Hopefully, this will give you all an idea of where I'm coming from. I appreciate and acknowledge all the help, advice and info I've gotten from this thread. Rockmanor - I'm so sorry to hear about the abuse you had to take. You sound like a very strong person to overcome that. Unfortunatately I think this has always been happening, it just wasn't talked about or even really had strong laws about it before. I know myself I have been a victim of fondling more than one time and attempted rape once, along with having men expose them to me as a child a handful of times. Luckily for me my personality as a child/teen was such that when I was in a situation where I was scared or felt uncomfortable I always ended up with a brave/angry/talk back type attitude and would sometimes kick/punch. I think that saved me from things going further. Most of these things I've pushed to the back of my mind and until this post I thought I had successfully forgotten the majority of them. One was a policeman that fondled my breast while we were at a concert so they exist in all professions unfortunately. My father fondled me once too, but I'm still confused what that was about as I was just walking by and he cupped my breast when I was 14. I slapped his hand off, continued walking, and it never happened again. I also know that I could have probably been a victim of random rape too if I hadn't had a sort of feeling something was wrong and walked another way or run from a car that slowed down and made my friends do the same. They'd laugh at me, but a few times we'd hear about it happening to somebody else in the area we'd been in and they started trusting me. (we did report what we saw/experienced to the police on those occasions) I grew up in what would be considered a very safe suburb to Stockholm, Sweden. My mom and I had a conversation about rapes and how often they seemed to happen about five years ago and I told her about these occasions and she then seemed to agree that it was probably more awareness and media reporting it. She was also shocked that I never said anything to her. I don't know why, I think because I blocked them out as soon as they happened. Maybe I would have told my mom if back then it was more common to talk about it in media and my mom would have thought to have the private parts talk with me as a young kid. I just don't think anybody where I lived was really aware of it then other than flashers which was very common to hear about in the news. Now what I do think has gotten worse with the internet is that these sick people have now so many other ways to get in contact with victims (chats etc.) and the spreading of child porn is so much easier. I'm thinking some of this may be increasing offenders too as some that would never act on their urges may now do so because they have more contact with others like them.

Yes Sheesh, I think I will be happier using the technique in the above video, it’s still pretty much a floating floor so I could lift up the wall sides occasionally to do a mold check or roll up ends to clean if need be. As far as hosing it down, this would be something I would likely do more towards the center of the room to eliminate stuff from car work. Also, please keep in mind you all that my flooring choice research was done with my type of garage in mind. My garage is cement block and stucco with a cement floor and has no drywall except one wall. That one wall has a cement border along bottom before drywall. Some garages have a cement band going around the whole wall bottom with drywall going up from there…probably very safe with this floor with that set-up. I think another thing to keep in mind is if your floor is properly slanted toward your garage door opening. I once had a garage where some knuckle heads graded the cement floor towards the door going into the house. The rest of my storage components came to day. I purposely ordered them a week or so apart to free up space for assembly with each order. My first order was a three piece large/tall storage kit from Amaz…Three storage containers = six boxes. Those took two hours to assemble. When I went back to order another kit comprised of the workbench/table, another tall cabinet, one base cabinet and one wall cabinet kit the price had gone up considerably. So, I ordered the 2nd kit from “O” and saved a lot. Same thing with the flooring, big price differences from site to site. The same holds true for the locking wheels option on your worktable. They are $60 on most sites but I found the exact same thing on another site for $40. This is what the second kit looks like before assembly. It’s another tall cab, one wall cab, one base cab and a work table kit. As with the first delivery they put it right into the garage for me.

Whew! Thank goodness they figured it out, so it doesnt happen again. Now you can have your eyes back to normal! Weird tho! Who woulda thunk?! I was just gonna shoot you an email this morn asking how you were doin with all that.
So is all that mummy tape off your back now? LOL!

That is incredible that your dermatologist was able to identify the problem. Usually, a person can go in numerous times and never find the cause.

You will definitely need to wear protection when you are working around rootone or fungicides. I'm so glad you found the source and hopefully are on the road to recovery.

How did they figure out to test for that? You're lucky to have found out what was causing it so fast. I have both psoriasis & eczema & so far the only thing that clears mine up is sunshine.

Linda they used a patch test, it was called a T.R.U.E. test and it tested for things I had never heard of.It was these tape strip things that I had to wear for 48 hours then to make sure I didn't accidentily pull them off, they put about a roll of tape on top of that it was itchy and uncomfortable but I think well worth it. After I tested positive they gave me an information sheet that listed things that the chemicals I tested positive for can be found in. I really thought I had developed an latex allergy and had started taking precautions for that at work but I wasn't getting any better. So Wed when I woke up and could barely open my eyes I felt like it was time to go to to the doctor. Thankfully my internist knew a dermatologist that had just opened her practice and could see me that very day. She also gave me an ointment called protopic and the swelling and redness was noticably better in less than 24 hours. Like I said there are other culprits besides the rootone but that is the only thing that has been new in the last month. At least I now know the things I need to be on the look out for.

Interesting. When they did my son's allergy test, it was about a million skin pricks all over his back which they did to my 5 year old (he's 21 now) while he was under anesthesia for his ear tubes. They asked all kinds of questions about what pets we had & foods he ate. I said if he was allergic to the pets, he would have to go since I had them longer & they listened better (never could teach the kids to heel). He was allergic to dust & mold & I said he might have to go anyway (who wants to clean & dust all the time?) LOL 3 1/2 years of shots later & he hasn't had a problem. I don't have insurance so I guess I'm stuck with the winter alligator skin. When it gets too bad on my face, I just don't go out in public.
