My baby brug is top heavy, should I top it?

The top leaves on my baby brug are too heavy for it to hold upright, should I top it and root the cutting or will I kill the little guy?

NO!!! "Topping' a brug generally thwarts it's desire to flower. JUST DON'T DO IT!!!

Is the wood soft and green, and the weight of the leaves is bending it? Is there a chance it is leaning toward the light?

If the wood is weak and flexible, and it is in strong overhead light, perhaps you can simply remove a couple of the larger top leaves to reduce the weight and strain on the wood. Giving it a bit of support until the wood stiffens might help it be a more attractive plant in the long run.

No. Never cut the top off. You will get get seeds soon. Flowers will come soon. So varieties don't get branch and they just grow tall. If you cut it, it will kill the plant growth and may kill the plant. You can use seed to grow more plants or share with friends. yes...please transplant them in new pot. Diclemeg, I'm growing a few varieties of heirlooms...Aunt Ruby's German Green, Amana Orange, Cherokee Purple, and a red variety that I've yet to identify (saved seed from the farmers market). The key in this climate is to start them very early so that they set fruit before the temperatures rise. I started them at the beginning of January, set them out in March, and they set fruit all the way up to late June. Now, with the heat we've been having...110 degree days and barely dropping below 90 for more than a couple hours at night, little to no fruit will set no matter what you do. Mine have stopped setting fruit now so it's completely normal. I mulch heavily and water VERY deeply but infrequently - about once every 3 days. If they can get the plants through the next 1.5 months or so, their plants should start to set fruit again when the temperature starts to drop. I've picked about 200lbs of tomatoes so far so it's definitely possible to get a nice crop here in the desert with the right care. The terminal bud is the end bud on the main stem right? I won't prune green leaves as I need those to provide shade for the developing tomatoes but how/how much do I prune exactly?

My New Zealand lemonade tree was very top heavy. While I am very much against trimming citrus I decided to because the top growth was in a bad zig zag form that might cause problems down the road. I mailed the twigs to pip for him to graft. The post office used their pony express mail system and it took just under 2 weeks to go 250 miles. The twigs arrived dead and moldy. To make matters worse I found out the PO sold their horses and bought donkeys for their Cincinnati to Troy high speed mail delivery system. I had been wrestling with to trim or not for about a month. I had a pole about 8 feet tall to tie a support string to aid the tree while it stiffened up for the summer.

Granite in a kitchen in a house valued at $100,000? NOPE, that's a waste of money. You won't begin to recoup what you spend for it. And everyone is changing out their tile countertops, at least from what I see on this site. (It's that grout, who wants to clean the cooking dreck out of the grout?) I would consider NOT buying a house with tiled countertops in the kitchen, all other things being equal. Some people really prefer stained cabinets over painted. I can like the look of either, but unless you get a true pro to do the job ($$$), it's going to look cheapened. Those cabinets look fine to me, and would not dissuade me from making an offer. It's the curb appeal (driveway) you may want to be focusing on. Oh, and see if you can bleach the floor tile grout in the shower as white as possible - or see if there is a way to make it all look like it's supposed to be one light sand or gray color of grout...

it's about 18in tall, and looks healthy. It has a little bit of green wood, from new growth. The WOODY part is still flexible. I'll stake it for now and see how she does.

rsieminski , I would selective go in and thin out the weaker branches as you would to bonsai a plant, this will mean you will have to watch it until you reach the desired shape you are seeking. If you don't do anything this plant will become top heavy and wind can take it to the ground if not staked properly.

What about staking it ?..... and possibly putting it into a larger pot?

Staking it is the best advise. The stake will allow for the stem to grow thicker and become woody. the woody stem will be able to hold up the top growth. For now the plant just needs a little help.

Well this little thing only has the main stem, and 2 branches that start at the base and go half way up the side. They are not weighing it down, it's those top leaves. I tied the main stem to a little stick that holds it upright now. The leaves look huge for such a small plant. We will see how she does.
