Citris trees for air quality?

grandeandy

I read somewhere before that orange and lemon trees greatly improve indoor air quality. Do most of you believe this is accurate?

If so, I would like to start growing in my basement. I was looking into this, and I think dwarf would be the way to go due to size... however, I am wondering if perhaps a 12/12 light cycle versus 18/6 would keep a non-dwarf lemon/orange tree from growing through the ceiling?

Also concerned about the lights in general. High Pressure Sodium, Metal Hallide, or Florescent? I saw some T5 florescent bulb systems for $200-$500 which looked good to me over the intense lights from MH or HPS, but would that be nearly as effective in growing a citrus or orange tree?

Any advice on this is greatly appreciated! I would love to go out and buy everything necessary this weekend.

Thanks,

~ AJ
