way ot: elliptical for home use

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good elliptical trainer for home use? I want to keep it under $1500.00. I don't need a load of bells and whistles, just basic adjustments and display. I was originally looking at the Bowflex tread-climber which is significantly more expensive but was surprised to see that it has terrible reviews. An elliptical is my next choice.

Karyn I have looked in and can't find much.. I even sicked my DD on it and she has come up empty except for Craigslist!!!

I think we are going with the Sole E55 or E95. I now know more about elliptical trainers then I ever wanted to know. lol

House has speakers installed- how ot use?

I'm not a tech or an audiophile, just a homeowner who has been hooking up and installing stereo equipment for lots of years. First, it would be nice to see how the speakers sound. If you can get your receiver to work long enough, you could connect the receiver's speaker outputs to the inputs in your office, one set at a time, and see if you like the way the speakers sound in the respective rooms, how the volume controls work, etc. If I understand you, there are two sets of inputs in your office. Most standard stereo receivers (not necessarily AV receivers) will allow you to hook up two sets of speakers and switch them on and off independently. Or maybe you could borrow a receiver to test. I don't think I'd put much money into fixing the old receiver, as much as you may love it. I went that route, and decided to buy a more modern, inexpensive Aiwa receiver. It's fine for my purposes and even has a remote control, which you don't get with the older ones (will only work in the same room however). If you need to hook up more than two sets of speakers, then you will need a more sophisticated solution. But it's great that you've got speakers and wiring installed. Just some thoughts.

You have to be sure you get the right size end cap for the diameter of the hose. If there is a Home Depot near you, I have always found them to be very helpful in telling me what I need and what to do. Had to fix a few places in our irrigation system just the other day. Here in So. Cal., almost everyone has sprinklers and an automated system. I don't like it, but it beats hauling hoses around all the time in this dry, dry climate.

Well, I feel like the neighbors have our house bugged! DH came home from work last night and we were talking about the dog and suddenly the barking stopped. Then, around 9:00 PM the neighbor had a light on and was building something in the yard and the dog was out there yipping some, but at least he was, apparently, nearby. Now it is almost 9:00 AM here and NO DOG IN SIGHT. Hmmmm. How ironic that on a WORK DAY the poor thing seems to be indoors? WELL -- if that poor thing is out there endlessly again I will call animal control. Faye, you may be right -- just because they want to know who we are doesn't mean they'll tell the neighbors. We have two small dogs of our own and that's where we were afraid of retaliation. When we are gone the pups have access to the back yard -- DH said "All they'd have to do is open the gate..." Not that we have any reason to think they are THAT weird! Glass -- that is UN believable -- I just don't understand why people like that get animals. And then when they realize they don't give a care -- why they keep them. It's sick.

Feisty DM got tossed out of rehab and moved to skilled nursing. They said, she doesn't remember her precautions and says I will use any D... walker I want! They need some psychology lessons - you challenge someone like my DM and she will let you know what she thinks. In any case, I think the SNF is a better match for her right now and the food will be 10x better. The chef used to bring oysters on the half shell down to my dad when he was dying last year. It would perk him right up!

I got my ellipitical and am in way worse shape then I realized. I figured I'd start out with 15 minutes, low incline and resistance, with no problem. Holy cow, my muscles were burning. Looks like it will be 15 minutes at a time for the next few days : ( I swim and ride a bike and figured this would be a breeze...not!

LOL! Karyn, your comments reminded me of when I used to run several miles, daily. One weekend we went on a long, bike ride, and next day the muscles on my legs were so sore! It really brought down my 'cockiness' in thinking I was in such great shape!

I bought a like new used Bow flex and I'm still waiting for a room to be finished to set it up!

I got the Sol. It has some of the best ratings and I love it. The only negative is it's size. The machine is enormous! I originally was looking at the Bowflex because the commercials looked so good but after researching it decided against it. It has some of the worst ratings of any of the exercise machines. I was surprised because I had a Bowflex resistance machine when they came out about 30 years ago and really liked it.
