Anyone else growing Integrifolia Ember?

This is an introduction by Barry Fretwell that purportedly is the first red integrifolia on the market but mine has never been anything but pink. This year I am growing it on the patio in bright indirect sun and the sepals open up pink and stay that way the entire time. The plant also has mildew issues out the wazoo in my garden. The leaves look silvery green because of it.

Just curious if anyone else is having these issues with this clematis and if not, what growing zone you are in? I am wondering if it just doesn't like the southern heat and humidity and that is the reason for the lack of red coloration.
