That's a epie all right but its in bad shape and lack of good loving care, if it was mine I would first repot it and remove the dead ends,take a few cutting to start new plants. it looks like its not getting care or the right amount of light. I do see a few places to take a cutting or two, you only need a cutting about 6 inches long to start a new plant, lot of my named hybrids are from just one 6 inch cutting and after a few months I had shoots coming up from the base of the cutting.
Hope you can get a cutting or two from the plant.

Hi Bear, I know isn't it sad looking? And believe it or not, the picture does it justice. I have been cleaning for the lady who owns it for 3 years, and it hasn't really grown much, but it's no wonder. But it hs bloomed several times, and a lot of blooms. Her hoyas are the same way.

Do you know the name of this poor epie? I'd really just like to get my own plant.

it would be real hard to give it a name, there are so many epie that look alike even with out a name it would be a great plant, here a pic of one of my epie that blooms every year and has no name but that's ok with me, its a nice rose color and about 6 inches wide, its been hard to find a epie in garden center around here and when I do they look like heck and they don't seem to know what color they are. don't give up hope even a small cutting will make a nice plant in time.so ask for a small 6 inch cutting,who knows you might even get more than one

That's sure a pretty one, Bear. I've tried growing Epis and can't seem to get them to bloom. Well, I do have phyllanthus var. guatemalense montrose, that fairly common one you can find at the box stores. And I've found evidence that it's bloomed, but it must be a night bloomer as I have yet to actually see an open bloom.

So what's your secret to getting blooms? Humidity? Do you fertilize a lot? Do you grow them like other succulents or do you keep them more moist? I should be able to grow them successfully because I grow other jungle cacti. Maybe one day I'll figure them out... (Like I have room for another obsession!)

Hi Denise, I have a guatemalense montrose that has only bloomed once in 10 years and only had one flower its a night bloomer or at least mine did ( see pic below).all my epies are in my shade house and what ever the Humidity is at the time that's what they get, I've learn not to baby them and let them do there thing so from late April to late Sept. they stay out in the shade house, this year was a bad year for bloom with all the rain we had my bloom count was down to less than half. I feed them with Schultz cactus plus, using this brand is new to me but so far they all seem to be doing great with lots of new and stronger growth I feed them every week when I water, right now I use only half the amount called for on the box until I see how its working out . Just one word be very very careful you can get hook and want just one more then end up with a few 100 like me LOL right now I have around mature 75 named hybrids and over 200 year or or less rooted cuttings, this not counting Hoya, Xmas and Easter cactus,Dragon fruit and many other cactus.
I'm not even a garden center, I don't even have the heart to sell them, I love growing them, showing them off and talking about them, over the years I've found what works for me living in New England. would you say I'm hooked on them?

Thanks for the info & photo, Bear. Yes, that's the plant and what I figure the flower must have looked like after I find it wilted in the morning! Mine seems to be setting buds now, so maybe I'll keep a really close eye on it and when a flower looks like it might be ready to open, set my alarm to get me up in the night. Seems silly to have a plant that blooms and never get to see the blooms!

Maid, Your Epi looks like it might be ackermannii if the flowers are red. I have a couple large ones and they have lots of blooms in the spring and it's blooming again now but with fewer blooms. It's a day bloomer and my flowers last several days.
These plants arn't the best looking even at their best but the flowers are well worth growing this one. It's my favorite of all the Epi's I've tried.

Ackermannii blooms it's head off for me and that's more than I can say about most of the others I've tried growing.

Hi Jo, Nope thats not the same plant. Yours looks like the Orchid Cactus (Common name) I have been coming up with while trying to search for the one in question. The leaves/segments on yours are more paddle-like, the one I posted has triangular (three sided) stems and the flowers are deep hot pink.

With that being said, I'm glad I finally id'd the plant, Now I want to buy it. . .
