Have the seed pods turned yellow yet or cracked open? If they are still green, use a twist tie and cut up some nylons and put this around the seed pod. Using the nylon allows them to expand and continue to do what they need. When they crack open they are ready, I suggest leaving them on the stalk until they crack open. You can cut them before frost and store them in a dry spot until they do their thing. Tree Rats have been know to take off with them here, matter of fact I watched a rree rat do so and about a half hour later this same tree rat was doing back flips, running back and forth, up and down the two trees!

That rat is too funny. I was wondering if the squirrels might have absconded with them, but they found the garbage can that I keep the bird seed in and they have been raiding that quite regularly.

One more question. Will the seeds inside be real small?
What will they look like?

Thanks for the pic. That is what I needed. I have always worked with roses and this datura thing is completely new to me. I am going to try the seed thing and see what happens. The blooms on this plant are so pretty. I just bought this little plant at the flea market in Palmetto this summer and I was surprised that it took off so well.
I think I will soon become a collector. I hope my roses don't get jealous.

It depends on the Datura species as to how the seed pods will mature and what the seeds will look like. Daturas have pods that either split open and release their seeds or ones that just fall apart irregularly when mature releasing the seeds.

What Datura do you have?

The Wrightii is soft & falls apart, two chunks fell off when I picked it up to put it on the plate. The LaFleur is still hard & splits open.

Thanks to all. I got seeds. I used the nylon on the pod and it worked. I have the triple purple datura and it had that prickly green pod. It just sort of crumbled and the seeds fell out (in the nylon hose). These are my first seeds and I am so proud. I hope they make new plants.
